I just caught a Giratina in my platinum and want to know what a good moveset would be for it.

I think of giratina as a god, so i gave it a random moveset
Giratina
Nature: Serious
Item: Griseous Orb
Ability: Levitate
Form: Do I even have to say?
- ThunderBolt (Good Damage, May paralyze)
- Psychic (May lower SP.Defense)
- Shadow Claw (Type Coverage, Hi-Critical Ratio)
- Shadow Force (High Damage, Type Coverage, Also Stops Protect or Detect)
This all started from teaching giratina thunder for no reason.
Sorry for all of the info too :P.
Origin Forme:
Giratina (Shiny) @ Griseous Orb.
Ability: Levitate.
EV spread: 252 Sp. Atk., 252 Spd., 4 Def.
Nature: Modest.
Personality: Thoroughly cunning (All IVs are perfect).
Moves:
- Dgragon Pulse: STAB, decent Power, coverage for Dragon-types.
- Shadow Ball: STAB, decent Power, coverage for Ghost-types.
- Aura Sphere: A must for Giratina, coverage for Dark-types.
- Earthquake/Calm Mind: Why not?! And Calm Mind is great for this set.

**Altered Forme**:
Giratina @ Quick Claw.
Ability: Pressure.
EV spread: 170 Def., 170 Sp. Def., 170 HP.
Nature: Modest.
Personality: Thoroughly cunning (All IVs are perfect).
Moves:
Will~O~Wisp: Just wait and see...
Hex: Haha! A 100 base Power Ghost-type move! No ghosties can survive!
Dragon Pulse/Draco Meteor: ...The best Dragon-type move. Well, arguably so. But it has STAB, and deals with those nasty dragons...
Aura Sphere: Why would you say no?! Deals with Dark and Ice-types.

Aura Sphere- Deal with Dark Types, good power, perfect accuracy

Dragon Pulse- STAB, good power, good accuracy

Shadow Ball/ Or shadow Force- I would suggest shadow ball since it has more PP, and your opponent could switch into a normal type to evade the attack.

Stone edge/Earthquake-Both are high power, stone edge covers ice types, but Earthquake is more accurate. But earthquake as you know is one of the best attacks in the game.

Just a suggestion.

Aura Sphere already has Ice Covered so I'd go Earthquake
You're right, good point.
Special set though, trying to keep it within special moves is all.
Yes however, Stone Edge is physical as well. Earth Power is an option for special. Not quite as powerful and only hits one target but it has a 10% chance of lowered SpD.
And if you really wanted a special rock type move, it does learn Ancient Power. 10% chance of lowering Sp.D, or 10% chance of raising all stats? Although, 5 less PP and 30 less power. Aura Sphere isn't very good against flying and bug types. Flying types are usually paired with normal, so Shadow Ball becomes useless. But rock can fend off flying and bug types, which are combine commonly.
Ah *****, *****, *****. Posted 3 years ago. Bug types are barely present in Ubers and dragon pulse already covers the few flying types that pop up dualing as a dragon.
252 Attack /252 HP /4 Sp. Def.?

Your Dad (Giratina) @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Roar
- Will-O-Wisp
- Dragon Pulse
- Protect

Yuss this is a phazer. Deadly bulkiness will-o-wisp is for those who won't take t-spikes, protect stalls, dragon pulse is for taunters, roar does the phazing stuff

NOTE: this is Giratina Altered form

Why is this voted down you know how good this set is?
I hope Pokebase isn't going to turn into a version of Smogon... Smogonites hate originality.
This is a brilliant set! Someone had better upvote it.

Well, it depends solely on what form it's in, seeing as Origin Forme Giratina is an offensive beast, but Altered Forme Giratina is more of a Tank. I'll just a give a moveset for both. :D

ORIGIN FORME (Seeing as you're playing Platinum, it's probably the forme you're using.):

Shadow Claw (STAB, used to hit other Ghosts.)
Outrage (STAB, deals with other Dragons)
Stone Edge (Used to deal with Ice-types, along with coverage against Bug, Fire, and Flying-types.)
Silver Wind (Weak Base Power, but it may boost all stats. Also provides coverage against Grass, Dark, and the rare Psychic-type with good Defense.)

ALTERED FORME:

Thunder Wave/Will-o-Wisp (Use one of these to cripple the opponent. It's your choice, regarding which one.)
Rest (With Giratina's enormous Bulk, Rest is fairly safe to use.)
Outrage (Same as above.)
Shadow Claw (Same as above.)

There's lots you can do with Giratina, because of its bulk, so there's lots of choices and movsets for Giratina to utilize. =)

Giratina Origin @ Griseous Orb

Ability: Levitate

EVs: 252 Atk / 120 Def / 120 SDef / 16 Spe

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

  • Shadow Force
  • Outrage
  • Shadow Sneak
  • Will-O-Wisp/Dragon Tail

Giratina looks suspiciously like a Ghost/Steel type.
You cannot tell me it doesn't have like steel claws.

Shadow Force has an amazing base power of 216 including STAB and the Griseous Orb Boost.
Hearing some poeple prefer Shadow Claw/Ball over Shadow Force because afraid of a Normal type switching in, The only Normal types that might appear in the uber tier are Arceus and Blissey, Blissey cannot handle a STAB Griseous Orb Boosted Outrage, So that's not a problem.
Normal Arceus is more of a problem, But has immunity to all Ghost attacks anyway.
Outrage is also STAB and boosted further by Griseous Orb, 216 Base Power as well.
Shadow Sneak for some nice Priority being STAB. It has 72 base power with STAB and Griseous Orb, Which is good for a Priority move.
Will-O-Wisp can cripple something, Giving Giratina a nice Chance to use one of its attacks. Dragon Tail racks up some entry hazard and stops opponents who wants to set up.

The guy's got PLATINUM which is Gen IV, so Dragon Tail didn't even exist then.......
So he can still use him in Gen V, he could use the Poketransfer. And you can get the Griseous orb in B/W the shadow triad gives it too you.
plus these aren't specifically for the user who asked, we keep the questions here so we can post good movesets for the pokemon for all users to be able to use.

Giratina

Origin Forme
Ability- Levitate
Nature- Quiet
EVs- 252 Atk, 252 Sp.Atk, 4 HP
1. Shadow Force: Signature move+STAB+Semi invulnerability
2. Aura Sphere: Ice+Dark coverage
3. Draco Meteor
4. Shadow Claw/Dragon Claw/Shadow Ball

Alternate Forme
Ability- Pressure
Nature- Relaxed
EVs- 252 Def, 252 Sp.Def, 4HP
1. Shadow Force: Reasons listed above
2. Aura Sphere: Coverage needed still
3. Rest: Bulky in this forme
4. Heal Block/Will-O-Wisp: Healing prevented, slowly takes the foe down

NOTE- In the Origin Forme, you may not want a Modest or Adamant nature, seeing as how Giratina is an awesome mixed attacker, doing decent damage in both move categories.
In the Alternate Forme, however, Giratina is a tank, so a nature that boosts Defense or Special Defense but lowers Speed will help you a lot, seeing as how Giratina is fairly slow.

Giratina@Leftovers/Griseous Orb/Liechi Berry
Impish nature
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Defense / 4 Atk
Altered form

  • Substitute
  • Pain Split
  • Dragon Tail
  • Shadow Sneak

Sub-Split gives this bulky monster a nice sub to let him phase and share his pain whenever he gets low. Dragon tail is STAB phasing and Shadow Sneak finishes off weaker prey. Tis set works best if you have another team mate already set up hazards.

This is a weird set I came up for it and it works great!
Note: This moveset is used when you were previously set up on Spikes and Stealth Rock
Giratina @ Griseous orb
Ability: Levitate
Jolly Nature (+ Speed -Sp Attack)
Evs: 252 Sp Def 252 Def 6 Speed
Role: Annoying bulky wall
Moveset:
- Roar (To switch out defending Pokemon to cause damage)
- Rest (Heal Move to keep the annoyance going!)
- Sleep Talk (You don't want to be completely defenseless!)
- Outrage (High Power, Stab, Pokemon won't get locked in if used in sleep talk)

The Devil (Giratina)@ Griseous Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 3 HP
Naive Nature: (+Spd, -Sp.Def
Giratina

  • Shadow Force: STAB, Sig, Great Atk, and Acc, disappears on 1st turn, hits on 2nd, coverage vs Ghost and Dark
  • Draco Meteor: STAB, Great Atk, Good Acc, harshly lowers Sp.Atk, coverage vs Dragon
  • Aura Sphere: Why not? Good Atk, never misses, coverage vs Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark, and Steel
  • Earth Power/Earthquake: Both have coverage vs Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock, and Steel. EP: Good Atk, Great Acc, chance to lower Sp.Def. EQ: Great Atk and Acc, hits with 2x Atk, if Dig made the enemy go underground.
