It's not "illegal. It's just looked down upon by many to cheat to obtain the best pokemon. But in tournaments, Ar obtained pokemon are prohibited.

AR is action replay. I think AR should be accaptable, if used rationally and not abused. For instance, many people out there will use their AR to   get level 100 shiny's with the click of a button. thats just annoying. but what I do is use rare candies reasonable through out the game- just to cut down on time spent training. action replays can be helpful, just don't go nuts with them.
