Ampharos (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Cotton Guard
- Discharge
- Heal Bell
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Is the 10% chance to paralyze worth choosing thunderbolt over just thunder?

Thunderbolt: Good power, high accuracy, chance to paralyze, can attack Pokemon using Fly, STAB.

Power Gem: Decent power, high accuracy.

Light Screen: Raises Sp. Def, makes it more likely that the foe will decide to use a Physical attack, allowing Static to take effect.

Signal Beam: Decent power, high accuracy, chance to confuse.

I like this set. The only problem I have is the fact that as you said, Light Screen makes your opponent more inclined to use physical moves, I would teach Ampharos the move Reflect (Which it can learn through breeding). since its only weakness is ground (almost always physical) to cover it, and it has higher special defense anyway.

The reason I have Light Screen is to help Static work. Also, Ampharos can learn Magnet Rise. Would replacing Power Gem for that work better or should I still get in Reflect instead of Light Screen?
I would say to replace rock gem for magnet rise, and keep light screen.  Your opponent would use physicals, but nothing super effective.
Great, thanks for your help.
wait thunderbolt can attack a pokemon using fly? didnt know that o_o
No it can't DT must have been mistaken
oh ok but that would be very useful if it could do that ^_^
I see. Originally, I didn't put any of the set in, and Pokemaster edited the moves in. Sorry about the context there, as it says "originally posted by Trachy."

Ampharos (M) @ Leftovers

Role: Bulky Sweeper

Trait: Static

EVs: 120 Def / 252 SAtk / 136 Spd

Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

  • Agility
  • Thunderbolt
  • Hidden Power [Ice]
  • Power Gem

Enough Bulk to Take most neutral hits that haven't been +1'd or + 2'd.

And nice Sweeping stats.

Agility makes up for that Horrible speed, so he can actually sweep, Thunderbolt for hard hitting STAB, HP Ice for Ground coverage and for Dragons and Grass types.

And Power Gem for extra coverage.

Ampharos (M) @ Leftovers/Light Clay

Trait : Static

Role : Annoying Sweeper/ Raichu Wannabe :P

Moves :

  • Attract
  • Reflect/Light Screen
  • Magnet Rise
  • Thunderbolt

Attract + Static annoys your foes to death :P
Reflect/Light Screen for team support, or as Trachy said, Reflect for making Static work better, and support from Light Clay
Magnet Rise makes it immune to Ground-Type moves like Earthquake
Thunderbolt to attack what can be defeated :P

Reflect: Good support move.

Heal Bell: Also a good support move.

Thunderbolt: STAB.

Hidden Power Ice: Deals with Grass and Ground types.

Hidden Power Grass can replace HP Ice to deal x4 damage to Water/Ground types. Focus Punch is also good to deal a large amount of damage, but is risky.

Generation 5

I call it the "Cockblock Toxic Staller

Ampharos (M) @ Leftovers

EV's 252 HP 252 SpD 4 Def

Cotton Guard

Cotton Spore

Toxic

Light Screen

First turn set up the spore, then guard for +3 Def boost. The light screen, go for a toxic and spore for more speed loss.

I'd put at least one attacking move here. He's completely screwed against a steel type.
ik, but still you can switch out
lol. rly? The Cockblock Toxic staller? (Edit in crazy pun here)
i would say.........noobish it is not a good set cuz if u fight against ground types u will defenatly(don't know spelling)lose
It's a goddamn Ampharos. You wouldn't use it against ground types...

My typical set up is this:

Ampharos (F) @ Leftovers

Ampharos

Ability: Static
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
EVs: 252 HP, 80 Def, 176 SpAtk

  • Thunderbolt (powerful reliable STAB)
  • Signal Beam (coverage)
  • Attract (female Ampharos as male opponents are slightly more likely in-game, also male is the default for PO)
  • Reflect or Magnet Rise (helps reduce or prevent Earthquake damage)

I used to use Power Gem but I found it barely covers more than Signal Beam and is lower power.

Quiet Nature
Static ability
158: def, 252: spa, 100: spd
Thunderbolt: God power, best overall electric type move. STAB as well
Power Gem: Unusual special based rock type move: Good power, good PP, great acc. Good type coverage.
Signal Beam: Good side effect, grass/dark/psychic type protection.
(Filler): HP Ice or Water, to deal with Ground types.
Fire Punch for type coverage. Bulldoze for again, type coverage.

My Ampharos (in SS) may be my best Pokemon (except Lugia). This moveset I find very effective:
Strength: Decent power, good back-up move, & needed outside of battle.
Discharge: Sufficient power, good accuracy, & 30% chance to paralyze
Signal Beam: Good power, good accuracy, & effective on both Grass & Psychic types.
Power Gem: Good power, good accuracy & effective on both Fire & Ice types.

I know Thunderbolt or Thunder are preferred as an Electric move, but I find Ampharos has high enough Special Attack that it doesn't make much a difference. Plus it seems to always cause paralysis, if it doesn't KO right away.

I kept Flaaffy from evolving until it learns Power Gem, that way Ampharos had it before the Elite Four.

Signal Beam is also super effective on Dark types
