Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset for Wailord?

3 votes

Mine is EV trained in Attack. It knows:

Avalanche: Decent damage, works well with Curse, Wailord doesn't have that great of Speed, high accuracy, used to deal with Grass types.

Curse: Increases Attack stat and its low Defense stat. Decreases Speed to help Avalanche.

Earthquake: High power, high accuracy, double damage against Pokemon using Dig, used to deal with Electric types.

Waterfall: Good power, high accuracy, STAB, decent chance to cause flinching.

O M G I remember talking about this! Nice name! Moby Dick xD
I REALLY like this set-up, but can you or someone else please explain to me why I can't vote?
Other than that, Wow, the name "Moby Dick" I have to name mine that as well!
Because you need at least 80 points to vote, this is to prevent people from Spam upvoting themselves with multiple accounts.
I named mine Fail Whale

1 question.  Hp BUG? Seriously ? Why?
Bug+Ice+Water is incredible type coverage.

That seems good. Bounce is an option too, another thing for grass types, if curse doesnt work that well.

Good set. it even has earthquake! If you're feeling lucky enough, you might consider aqua ring to go in place of something, but the other moves are more useful.

I love Wailord so much I had to give it the best moves I could. It was my main Water type in my Emerald version.

Wailord @ Choice Scarf

EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)

  • Water Spout
  • Ice Beam
  • Hidden Power Grass
  • Hydro Pump/Surf

Choice Scarf allows Wailord to pull off Water Spout, and is good for speed anyway.
STAB Water Spout is extremely powerful.
Hidden Power Grass for dem Grass types, but has good coverage otherwise as well.
Hydro Pump is good when Wailord's HP falls, still hitting pretty hard.
If you are turned off by the 80 accuracy and pheraps some nasty surprises in numerous battles, Surf doesn't hit as hard, but is still an alternative for the other Water type STAB.

Wailmer

NU wall
Wailmer (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 12 HP / 240 Def / 16 SAtk / 240 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

EVs make good 101 subs, which allows you to set up AR and amnesias. Scald is for taunt and the burn chance.

LC wall
Wailmer (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 36 HP / 236 Def / 236 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Aqua Ring
- Substitute
- Scald
- Amnesia

Same set, just with EVs tailored to suit LC.

Wailord

Item: Leftovers

Trait: Pressure
-Aqua Ring ( for healing, with leftover you can heal twice as much hp with Leftover itself)
-Ice Beam ( To cover grass types )
-Earthquake ( to cover electric types )
-Hydro Pump or Water Pulse ( I would personally choose Water Pulse because it has a chance of confusing opponent )
