What is a good moveset for Absol?

3 votes

Mine has the ability Super Luck. It knows:

Swords Dance: Greatly increases attack.

Sucker Punch: Overcomes Absol's lower Speed stat.

Psycho Cut: Deals with Fighting types. Critical hit ratio increased by Super Luck.

Will-o-wisp: Inflics toxic burn which helps with Absol's low Defense stat.

Although its not what you asked, if you give it scopelens or other crit-raising items and spam night slash or Psycho cut the crit- rate is amazing.
Absol (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Super Luck
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Sucker Punch
- Psycho Cut
- Superpower
Both Psycho Cut and Sucker Punch are physical, what are you talking about?
Umm ill be honest and say i dont have a absol.. but looking at it's moves i'd say
Phyco Cut
Night slash
sword dance :/.. or not since absols attacks usually ko... might replace with stone edge ...
when i had absol in emerald mine died in 1 or 2 hits so i dont usually have the time to use sword dance o.o
Decent moveset, Mapleflage1. I'd replace Slash with Sucker Punch, and Psycho Cut with Superpower, and you're good to go.
Thats exactlly my Absol's moveset :D
Why do people ev train it in speed? Its speed only reachs 127 when max out at lvl 50(neutral nature)
VGC is for scrubs.

This would ABSOL-UTELY be cool! Sorry I had to.
absol (M) psychic gem
trait:super luck
sucker punch
hidden power (psychic)or if you cant get that, zen headbutt
swords dance for powering up
i would go with the crit spammer...

i'll just follow your ev's , they awesome

@scope lens

psycho cut,
night slash,
stone edge,
shadow claw/swords dance/sucker punch/superpower

where night slash is STAB and psycho cut and stone edge are coverage, shadow claw only changes three neutral hits to super effective, swords dance is nice (duh), but he usually doesn't get too much set-up time, so sucker punch could be nice, but then superpower adds a LOT of coverage (perfect neutral coverage)

Absol (M) @

Trait : Super Luck

Role : Physical Sweeper

  • Swords Dance
  • Aerial Ace/ Bounce
  • Taunt
  • Sucker Punch/Night Slash

Swords Dance is for obvious reasons
Aerial Ace / Bounce is for coverage ( Accuracy or Power, you choose)
Taunt works as insurance for sucker puncher
sucker punch is for priority + support from Taunt
or night slash if you want another move, where you wont need taunt+ sucker punch combo....

Okay, i know there are better movesets for absol, but anyway.....

Hope this helps :)

That's a good movest that's why I upvoted seen as fly covers bug and fight but I wouldn't use bounce seen as that gives the foe a chance to switch in to lets say a rock type that can ko you plus I don't think it's 100%acc good answer
mine knows fly from an egg somehow, so does a Pikachu of mine >.<

I've been using this set in NU and loving it.

Absol (M) @ Fight Gem
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Sucker Punch
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Superpower

Set up a Substitute. Now you have protection if the foe switch to something else or if you're being assaulted by status. While you are behind a Sub, you can set up Swords Dance fairly safely. A Sub also means your opponent is forced to go on the offensive against you, meaning a Sucker Punch is going to end up being assured. They can try stalling out their status moves, but the high PP of Swords Dance combined with Pressure means that is unlikely to last long enough. Superpower provides almost perfect neutral coverage along with Sucker Punch. In fact, only the never seen Croagunk resists it in NU. The item is the point I took a long time in deciding upon. I first used Life Orb but found the recoil to end up KOing it too soon combined with Substitute. And Expert Belt, the usual replacement for Life Orb, just didn't feel right with only two types. So I went with Fight Gem for Superpower, for a hit against Fighting types stronger than a Psycho Cut.

Wel, with super luck, add Night Slash instead of Sucker Punch for a HUGE Critical hit Ratio. Then your great except if you want, you can add in Aerial Ae to cover fighting and bug types.

Sucker Punch: Coming off of Absols high attack and low Speed, this STAB priority is amazing.

Psycho Cut: Gets that critical-hit boost, and takes care of Poison and Fighting types.

Swords Dance: OHKO Sucker Punch anyone?

Superpower: Provides great type coverage.

There really is only one other option, although it is a really good option: Stone Edge, which provides good type coverage and has a high critical-hit rate. Also, you could replace Sucker Punch with Night Slash if you want to press your luck.

Here is a set I found:

Night Slash-STAB and with its ability Super Luck, it will get a critical Hit almost every time

Psycho Cut- it also gets a critical hit boost and for those Bulky Fighting types

Megahorn/Fire Blast/Aerial Ace- Megahorn for coverage and the others for Bug types, Aerial Ace more recommended

Swords Dance-Dance it up!

A set I found:

Absol (M) @ Scope Lens/Life Orb
Trait: Super Luck
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Night Slash
- Psycho Cut
- Hone Claws

Life Orb makes this doggie hit even harder. Super Luck is great with the Scope Lens and this set. EVs and nature give this guy some speed. Stone Edge is Coverage against Bugs. Night Slash is STAB. Psycho Cut is Coverage against Fighting types. The aforementioned moves also have high crit rates, making this guy get a crit about every 2/3 turns. Hone Claws is to increase Attack even more, and raise the accuracy of Stone Edge. Life Orb is for competitive, because, sadly, Scope Lens is banned :(

Absol @ Absolite
Trait: Justified ---> Magic bounce
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Jolly / Naive
-Knock off
-Sucker punch
-Pursuit / Fire blast / Thunderbolt

If you want pursuit, choose jolly. If you want FB or T-bolt, choose naive. The occasional T-bolt really surprises opponents so I really suggest trying it out!

For Absol's moveset and explanation, refer to my answer for a Bisharp moveset.
Should Have Super Luck and a Razor Claw or Scope Lens. EV's: 255 Atk 255 Speed
Jolly Nature

Absol @ Life Orb

Trait: Super Luck

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SpA)

  • Swords Dance
  • Sucker Punch
  • Superpower
  • Night Slash/Substitute/Psycho Cut/Zen Headbutt

Okay, you know the drill with Swords Dance it boosts Absol's already great attack.
Sucker Punch lets Absol outspeed faster threats, and is STAB.
Superpower compliments Sucker Punch nicely by hitting Steel types and a cup of other types super effectively.
Night Slash allows Absol to get trough opponents who try to stall out its Sucker Punches, and such cases can actually be pretty off-pissing so it's an option worth considering.
Substitute lets Absol block status and it's an excellent protection for attacks.
Psycho Cut can be used to give coverage for Poison types who roam in the tier, and coverage on Fighting types as well.
Zen Headbutt can be used if a specific KO is important, or if it is just preffered because of the extra power and flinching chance.

O.K.!!! My absolute FAVORITE Poke!!!
Abilty:Super Luck.Nature:Adamant.Item:Scope Lens.
1. Mean Look(Trap foe helps alot!)
2.Taunt(Force them to use attack moves,no status moves!)
3.Night Slash(STAB,SUPER VERY HIGH chance of crit w/ Super Luck,Scope Lens, and High crit ratio!!!)
4.Psycho Cut(Same as Night Slash,Fighting coverage.)

I see what you did there

Item: Razor Claw
Ability: Super Luck
Night Slash - Strong STAB
Psycho Cut - Deal with fighting types
Slash - High critical hit ratio
Swords Dance - power up attack

With the ability, item and moveset, it is a 1/2 chance of getting a critical hit.
+ with Swords Dance you don't need a critical hit. But if it is one, WATCH OUT!.

Absol (F) @ Scope lens
Trait: Super Luck
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Night Slash (STAB, high crit, Ghost and Psychic)
- Aerial Ace (Fight and Bug)
- Megahorn (Dark)
- Swords Dance (+Atk)

This build handles Absol's strengths and weakness's.

Why give Absol Night Slash, when he can get Sucker Punch? It's a better move with priority, and more power
Sucker Punch does nothing when the opponent doesn't attack, or if you get hit with a faster priority attack, which is a pretty big downside.

So this is a gen 6 non-mega set...

Emo (Absol) (M) @ Razor Claw
Ability: Super Luck
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Night Slash
- Stone Edge
- Psycho Cut
- Superpower/Swords Dance/Sucker Punch

With the new gen 6 mechanics, Absol's Night Slash, Stone Edge and Psycho Cut will always score a critical hit. (Visit Serebii if you don't believe me) In the last slot you can run sucker punch, but I like to use it more as a wallbreaker. (Mostly for negating the Def boosts on Sigilyph and striking it with SE Night Slash or Stone Edge) You can also run Swords Dance, but Absol is generally too frail to use it IMO, so Superpower is my preffered move, blessing Absol with perfect coverage. (Most notably hitting MMawile for neutral damage, you don't wanna give that beast a free Swords Dance)

Alternatively, you could run this:

Emo (Absol) (M) @ Razor Claw / Life Orb
Ability: Super Luck
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Shadow Claw
- Superpower
- Swords Dance

Sucker Punch overcomes Absol's speed, Shadow Claw f***s with stat boosters, and provides perfect coverage alongside Superpower. Swords Dance to make him even deadlier.

Whoa...I guess Mega Absol IS the worst mega evolution.
he def'ny aint, magic bounce+sucker punch wrecks shop, along with good speed and attack, AND his swords dances can't be phazed. i've used him myself a lot. abomasnow, houndoom and bannette are all a lot worse i think. I just wanted to post this set.
Houndoom is OK and Bannette is OP cause' priority Destiny Bond. Mega Absol is just... boring. It's an all-out sweeper but not as good as Garchomp. Absol's 100% crit chance is much more appealing and interseting. Maybe Absol doesn't do it as good as Kingdra but the 100% crits are still good. I know now none of the Megas are bad(except maybe Ampharos and Abomasnow.). People call Mega Scizor bad because Life Orb Scizor outdamages it, but Mega Scizor is a bulky Scizor. It has a better chance of getting a Sword's Dance off than regular Scizor. Mega Houndoom is just better than regular Houndoom because of its better stats. To see what I mean by "boring", check out my movesets. Mainly Camerupt, Delibird, Probopass, and Accelgor(which I just posted.).

- Knock Off
- Fire blast

Alright lemme explain. This set has Absol's needs and gets Ferro at the same time which might pose as a potential threat to your team, so Absol takes care of that. Absol also kills Mega Alakazam with Sucker Punch as long as the opponent can't use status and might not have no safe switch-ins. Absol is also quite powerful but it comes with a price. It's bloody frail, so you need to counter/check most of its threats, major ones being priority fighting types and anything faster than it resisting Sucker Punch. Justified also works with good predicts but Swords Dance can be used over Fire Blast for immense power but it would miss out on Ferro kills. Mega Absol's Magic Bounce also bounces back all status so good prediction means free hazards, but use a spinner regardless just to be safe.

Hope this set brings victory to many! :D

Do you mean:

Nature: Adamant (+Atk -SAtk)?
SpA and SAtk are the same thing, SAtk is just the more commonly used of the 2
What I mean is that he didn't say what nature it had.
Oh (filler)
Sorry for that.
As for that item, why not go for a Scope Lense if critting is your goal?
You should Find a Different move from Slash, Something like type coverage

I am not an expert on movesets but here is what I think:

Ability- Super Luck
Item- Anything that powers up ice/dark type moves

  • Hail- Obvious reasons (Blizzard never misses in hail)
  • Blizzard- Blizzard never misses in hail
  • Shadow Claw- Can take care of most types and has good power
  • Sucker Punch/Thunderbolt- STAB (except for Thunderbolt) and can be very helpful in some ways, good power and takes care of a few types

enter image description here I hope this was helpful! ~ FrozenVanillite

answered Mar 3, 2013 by FrozenVanillite
i would not suggest this set, as Absol's Special Attack is pretty poor, and he also takes Hail damage himself.
I made this a long time ago, and also I used to think that Absol was ice type but it is not.
