Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset for Rayquaza?

8 votes

Mine knows:

Earthquake: Must I say why?
Dragon Claw: Good power, high accuracy, STAB, deals with Dragon types, like it better than Outrage.
Overheat: Being the only special attack move means the recoil won't greatly cripple Rayquaza. High power, decent accuracy, deals with Ice, Bug, and Steel types.
Extremspeed: Priority, good power, high accuracy.

I like the moveset especially the ExtremeSpeed.
"Rayquaza. High power, decent accuracy, deals with Ice, Bug, and Steel types."

What the...
Please read the previous line before you comment
I like the Overheat idea... doesn't have stab, like Draco Meteor but if Rayquaza has the speed he should be able to take out the ice types.
Outrage is the best move in pokemon history. why don't you teach rayquaza it
outrage is bad (in my opinion) due to confusion, and it isn't worth the switch out and there are much better items then the berry that heals confusion
"God bless V-Create + White Herb for Rayquaza..."  :D
couldn't have said it better myself
what is STAB?
Alias, STAB stands for Same Type Attack Bonus.

I can honestly say, that this is EXACTLY the moveset I'd put on Rayquaza.

It's got devastating STAB, earthquake for Steels, powerful priority, and Overheat for a powerful fire attack to deal with Ice-types, and Steel-types with Levitate/Magnet Rise (Here's lookin' at you two, Magnezone and Bronzong!).

Like you said, the fact that it's your only Special attack makes the recoil pretty minimal, and is probably only going to be used in a pinch.

There are no recommendations I can give. It's perfect!

Thanks, and happy birthday for yesterday.
Thanks bro! Isn't you birthday coming up soon as well? Like, REALLY soon?
Yeah, tommorrow.
Wow, happy early birthday, Trachy! =D
why would you teach it those moves?

Rayquaza @ Choice Scarf

Trait: Air Lock

EVs: 196 Atk / 196 SAtk / 116 Spd

Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)

  • Thunderbolt
  • Outrage
  • Surf
  • Earthquake

My ubers lead, and I love 'em.

He clears out Kyogre's weather, then outspeeds the modest scarf set by 1 speed point. Hits hard with Thunderbolt.

He later can clear out threats like Adamant Zekrom ( Still outspeeding by 1 point ^^ ) Modest Reshiram ( Same boat! ), or Dialga with Modest.

The only dragons that I have to worry about are Palkia or a faster Rayquaza.

Anyway, he outspeeds those threats to nail with STAB Outrage.
Surf is for groudon leads. ( Once again, no sun is out due to Air lock )

While Earthquake is for general coverage. Takes out the seemingly rare Arceus-Electric, the ever so common Dialga, and let's me hit that troll Ferrothorn for some neutral damage.

It's easily replaceable with a Fire move. Heck, I'll probably run this with V-create when it's released :D ( V-create > Earthquake that is. Keep in mind that Flamethrower, Fire Blast, and Overheat are all still great choices for that slot. )

Its a good set but i think you should have a priority move like Extremespeed
have it hold lum berry and you can avoid toxic, parahacks and burn. it also wont get confused.
I like your Picture, Named it Swiggidy Rayquaza in my files!

Rayquaza @ Choice Band/Choice scarf

Trait: Air Lock
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)/Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Outrage
- Stone Edge
- Fly
- Earthquake

Rayquaza is already really fast so time for the good part. Choice band is mainly for outrage however other moves can work. However if you want extra speed go with choice scarf and if your going scarfed use adamant.

Rayquaza is one of my favorite Pokemon and I don't mess around at all when using him.

Draco Meteor- This is the most powerful Dragon Type move and it takes care of your Dragon weakness, also the recoil lowers the Sp. Attack, and this is his only Special move and that he has a very high Sp. Attack to begin with and it has STAB
Earthquake- Takes care of the Rock weakness and is an all-around great move
Stone Edge- Takes care of your Ice weakness and has a high-critical hit ratio
Outrage- Also takes care of the Dragon weakness, and is a very high power move with STAB

I also have it hold a Persim Berry to cure it of being confused after using Outrage

This is the moveset I have for my Rayquaza. enter image description here

Dragon dance- Good move for raising stats
Fly- STAB while avoiding a attack
Outrage- Do I need to say why
Extremespeed- Fastest priority move and a easy way of taking down an
opponent with low health

Rayquaza@Life orb

252 sp atk 252 atk
Air lock

Naive or Hasty nature Your pick

Espeed Nice to have a priority on anything pretty much so yeah

D meteor always nice to have Covers other Dragons STAB special

Brick Break OR Iron tail OR iron head Takes care of rock and ice types iron tail for power
but risky accuracy iron head for hopefully lucky flinch brick break for removing screens
like reflect and light screen Your pick I'd say again OR BEST FOCUS IS FOCUS BLAST as its higher power takes cares of steel types BUT DOESNT BREAK LIGHT SCREEN OR REFLECT AND ACCURACY IS A PROBLEM TOO solution is put in Hone Claws Baton Pass Glicor and your prepared for the worst

Fly Dodges a move BUT BEWARE STONE EDGE and nice STAB power

Do yeah used this so many times never been dissapointed

Rest talk set sometimes dissapoint as sometimes you get rest

Amazing when my smeargle uses 6 cosmic power 3 shell smash 3 cosmic power

recover stall if you need to I recomend max sp def max def 4 hp or 170 hp 170 sp def 170

hp works too (mostly recomended) then baton pass as this saves

a move slot as well as keeping rayquaza at high hp instead of losing hp while setting up

and wasting a move slot and yeah hope this helps.

Because of its stable Attack and Sp. Atk., is better to choose Sp. Atk.

Rayquaza @ Wide Lens/Yache Berry

Ability: Air Lock

Nature: Modest (-Attack, +Sp. Atk.)

-Dragon Pulse (The best Dragon Special Attack, to deal with Dragons, STAB)

-Focus Blast (To break through some Rock and Ice types)

-Surf (If Rock is paired with Ground, this will be x4 effective)

-Flamethrower (If an Ice type is paired with Ghost, better use this)

*I selected Sp. Atk. better becayse Rayquaza got better Special moves. But if you select Physical as better, try this better:

enter image description here

Rayquaza @ Yache Berry/Lum Berry

Ability: Air Lock

Nature: Adamant (-Sp. Atk., +Attack)

-Outrage (To deal with Dragons, best Physical Dragon move, Lum Berry will do the rest)

-Brick Break (To deal with Rock and Ice type, also break walls)

-Stone Edge (To deal with some more Ice types)

-Earthquake (FEEL THE EARTHQUAKE, ROCK TYPES!)

Rayquaza: choice specs
Rayquaza
Nature: timid
Ability: air lock
Evs: 4hp 252 sp atk 252 spd
Draco Meteor
Flamethrower/fire blast/earth power
Focus blast/thunderbolt/surf
Dragon pulse/earth power

Now a specs rayquaza may seem odd, it has several unique features that make it notable. First of all, Rayquaza's movepool is exceptional. Second, with his ability and the appropriate move, can take on all weather starters, weather threats, and prominent Uber Pokemon. Third, it is highly unexpected, and highly unpredictable. Basically the recommended attacks are Draco meteor, the overpowered standard fare of most choiced special dragons. Next come fire blast and flamethrower, which take care of steel types, as well as abomasnow. Earth power hits dialga, heatran and tyranitar without the accuracy issues of focus blast. Focus blast is more steel coverage, and also takes out tyranitar. Now thunderbolt hits lugia an hooh, but more importantly nails kyogre. Surf gets groudon, Ttar and hippowdon. Finally, dragon pulse can provide STAB without the special attack drop.

This guy loves a rapid spinner on the team, and as he will likely force Pokemon out, will enjoy hazard support. As such, forretress is a good teammate. Pokemon who can handle choice scarfed threats like kyurem white and kyogre, are also helpful. Remember this set is for niche uses, so don't just go throwing it on any team.

A good moveset you ask? Well I would say-

Ability: Air Lock
Nature: Rash
Item: Leftovers
Flamethrower-To burn if Thunderbolt is at 0 and the target isn't Paralyzed
Outrage-For STAB
Draco Meteor-For STAB
Thunderbolt-To paralyze if flamethrower is at 0 and the target isn't burned

Rayquaza (M) @ Life Orb / Lum Berry

Trait: Air Lock

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd

Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

  • Earthquake
  • Outrage
  • ExtremeSpeed

Rayquaza (Special Set)
@wise glasses
Modest
Mischievous
Sp.atk and Spd EV's

Draco Meteor/Dragon Pulse - STAB, covers dragon weakness
Air Slash - STAB, coverage decent power and a good chance of causing the foe to flinch.
Focus Blast - Covers 2 weaknesses, and crazy power and a chance to lower the foes Sp.def.
Earth Power - Large range of coverage, chance to decrease foes Sp.def.

Rayquaza is an absolute beauty, this set is about coverage and decreasing the foes Sp.def, which is either useful and/or needed dependent on if you choose Draco meteor or Dragon pulse, your gonna have to choose between the two but either is fine.

Rayquaza (physical set)
@persim berry/choice scarf
Adamant
Proud of its power
Atk and Spd EV's

Outrage/Dragon Claw - STAB, crazy power, covers dragon weakness
Stone Edge - great power, high critical hit ratio, coverage.
Earthquake - great power, accuracy, coverage.
Swords Dance/ Dragon Dance - sharply raises Atk, or raises Atk and Spd

This set is also pretty good, covers all weaknesses and allows for a boost in Atk and/or Spd, really a power set, also if you choose Outrage, then pick the persim berry as your item, otherwise choice scarf to make for a dangerous sweeper.

Rayquaza(Mixed set)
@kings rock
Jolly
Likes to run
Spd and either Atk or Sp.atk EV's

Draco meteor - STAB, covers dragon weakness.
Iron Tail/Head - coverage of weaknesses (including fairy).
Earthquake - its Earthquake dude...
Air Slash - STAB, decent power and decent chance to flinch the foe.

This set is aimed for Rayquaza to be fast as heck and flinch the foe and just kill anything it crosses, because a dragon type move is hardly called for, Draco meteor works in this set for a powerful fast strike, plus the decrease in the Sp.atk doesn't affect the rest of the set, air slash is there just to flinch the opponent, and to handle Pokemon with the ability sturdy, this set is just there for competitive purposes, its is an annoying set to verse that does crazy damage and covers alot of types.
