You already lose points for voting down why do you need 100 or so points. Also voting up is not a risky thing.

The system works the way it does for a reason. Spam voting on certain players used to be a big thing on this site. A point requirement makes sure that no new users can a use their downvotibg privileges, as they may not know how to use them yet, since they're new. That aside, the point requirements ensures that no users will be capable of making a duplicate account and spam downvotibg other people to oblivion. This works the same way for upvoting. Yes, upvoting is a good thing, it should be encouraged, but users being spam upvoted is not a good thing and gives them points that they don't deserve. By setting the requirement, this means that the duplicate account must make some posts, in order for the original account to upvote them past the point requirement. Not only does this make spam voting easier to spot, but once an account has been posted, it is possible to check its IP, making it significantly easier to catch rule breakers.

You raise a valid point, but this system exists for a reason, and it carries out its purpose with little to no flaws.
