I have a connection that works with my Gen V games, but, why won't it work with the pre-Gen V games?

The games aren't compatiable with your Wi-Fi settings. Gen IV use the normal setting which is connections 1-3 while Gen V uses 1-6. You probabily have it set on one of the settings from 4-6.
