IV breeding quick question?

0 votes

(HP/ATK/DEF/S.ATK/S.DEF/SP)

I want an Abra with these IVs: 31/30/31/30/31/30. I already bred an Abra with x/x/x/30/31/30. Now I'm in the process of breeding one with 31/30/31/x/x/x. So my question is..

Assuming one is male & the other female:
31/30/31/x/x/x + x/x/x/30/31/30 = 31/30/31/30/31/30 ?

I hope that was clear enough lol. if not ask away and I'll try and answer.

IV Breeding doesn't work like that; it's not as if the highest IVs in each stat will be passed down to the offspring, otherwise all you need to do is chain breed and you can eventually get a perfect IV offspring.

From Pokémon Platinum on, the baby will inherit three IVs, each from a different stat and from a random parent. In addition, a new mechanic was added to breeding, where if either or both parents holds an EV item, instead, the baby will receive the IV of the corresponding stat from one of those parents and the baby will then inherit two other different random IVs, each from a random parent. For example, if a parent is holding the Power Anklet, the baby will inherit a Speed IV from that parent, and it will also inherit two other different IVs from its parents, for example, Attack and Special Defense. As another example, if one parent holds a Power Anklet and the other parent holds a Power Weight, the baby will inherit either a Speed IV from the first parent or an HP IV from the second parent, and it will also inherit two different IVs from its parents other than Speed or HP. This system is retained in HeartGold and SoulSilver.

This applies to Generation V as well.

So say you have two Pokemon that have perfect IVs (31 in each stat). If you breed them together, only 3 random stats will have perfect IVs. The other 3 stats are determined randomly.

I assume that you want those IVs for an Abra for Hidden Power Fire; what you can do is give the parents EV items to ensure 1 stat will have the IVs you want. The other IVs will be randomly chosen.

What would happen if you gave both parents a Power Anklet or another EV item?
@MrKijani: "As another example, if one parent holds a Power Anklet and the other parent holds a Power Weight, the baby will inherit either a Speed IV from the first parent or an HP IV from the second parent, and it will also inherit two different IVs from its parents other than Speed or HP."

So it will still only passdown 1 (for sure) the other 2 will remain random. That sure IV will be either HP or speed (in this case, as it's the anklet & the weight)

@Marzipan: I get it now. though this brings me to another question, how do we go about creating a perfect pkmn if only 3 IVs will be passed down? luck/abuse?
Yep; both parents holding an EV item will only result in 1 IV (corresponding to either EV item) being passed down.

Yea, luck or hacking; though, if you have one of N's Pokemon, they have near perfect IVs (30 each stat), so they will be able to help in getting good IVs for your Pokemon (providing they're the right egg group).
one of? I thought you only get the one Zoroark :o

so ok. I see how people get shinies with perfect IVs.. RNG abuse/hack/dumb luck? damn.
You need memory link with Pokemon White or Black to get N's other Pokemon.
