What is a good moveset for Samurott?

Likely Tier: Underused
Samurott is the best of a bad bunch! Emboar has good attack but no speed to back it up. Serperior has good speed and defense but lower attack (depending on movesets I *may* choose Serperior). Samurott is a great all-rounder.
Nobody likes Emboar D=
Emboar is a great suicide sweeper! With it's ability to learn Flare Blitz and Head Crash, (or is it Head Charge? I forgot. ) and Wild Charge through tm, give it a Life Orb and sweep away! :3 Hammer Arm is a good filler.
Actual tier: NU.
samurott for life!!!!!

Sorry I haven't been on lately! Been studying for tests that seem to pop up a lot. So anyway, here is my suggested set:

Special-

Ice-Beam-Special, good power, covers Grass weakness.

Boiling water/Surf-I know I'm going to get a lot of heat for this (no pun intended), but I would only use surf in one on one battles, with 2 vs 2, and the new 3 on 3 battles, Surf will likely still be targeted at everyone other than the user. So boiling water is good if you take that into account (Unless of course you're in a single battle, or you team favors water attacks, like the ability water absorb)

Trump Card- With the new PP based moves, and pressure gaining more attention, This can be used for a surprise attack.

Taunt/Air Slash/hidden power [Ground]-Taunt to force out walls, or air slash for added coverage. Hp can cover electric weakness if you find it necessary.

Physical

Swords Dance-Boosts attack

Waterfall/Aqua tail/Shell Blade-Water fall is the median of power and reliability. Aqua tail gives you a bit more power which can make the difference. Shell blade is probably the one I'll get the most complaints about. While it does have lower power than the other two, It offers a 50% chance to lower defense, so Your opponent can either risk trying to survive our attacks with your boosted attack and their lowered defense, or swap out, giving you a free switch.

X-Scissor-bug move, covers his grass weakness.

Night Slash/Revenge/Vengeance-Night slash is good for added type coverage, revenge works well early thanks to his decent defenses, meaning he'll be low on health fairly early in the battle. Vengeance is really only if you're in a double or triple battle.

or megahorn instead of x-scissor.
Nice set's :D
why dont you put encore

A Special-focused Samurott seems like the best choice, at least for type coverage. Shame there's no Amnesia when it has Swords Dance.

  • Surf
  • Ice Beam
  • Air Slash
  • Substitute

EVs: I think a mixed spread would be good.
252 SpAtk, 156 Speed, 20 Def, 80 SpDef

Amnesia? Not since Gen 1 did that make something into a special sweeper.

My Starter Also Trachy. It Will Be An Excelent Mix Sweeper. Trust Me. This Is The In Game set ill be using:

Ice Beam: Fairly Obvious Move.

Surf: Yeah.

Megahorn: Bit More Coverage.

Air Slash/Night Slash: For A Crit Hit Ratio.

This One Might Be good for Competetive:

Swords Dance: To Raise Attack.
Waterfall/Aqua Tail: STAB
Megahorn/X-Scizzor: For Grass, Not Bad Coverage
Night Slash/Ice Beam/Grass Knot/Return/Aerial Ace: For Backup.
EVS: 252 Speed, 252 Attack, 4 Sp. Defense
Nature: Jolly or Hasty

Or This Special Set:
Surf: Of Course.
Ice Beam: Of Course
Air Slash: Yep, Good Coverage, Crit Hit Rate.
Grass Knot: For Those Other Water Types. I Was Surprised it could learn this, but its a good move for it:)

Nature: Timid: To Get That Speed Up.
Quick Claw: If This Isnt Enough Speed, Use A Quick Claw!
EVs: 152 Sp. Attack, 252 Speed, 100 Sp. Defense

Trachy? Why the crap did you use return?
Because Normal and Water gets excellent neutral coverage. And besides, it's not like Return is a bad move.
What can I say, I prefer Night Slash.

And on your first comment,
Thats why Bibareal is so amazing! XD

My least favorite of the starters, this guy doesn't have anything that stands out.

Ability: Torrent

EVs: Attack, Defense, Sp. Def Nature: Adament

Swords Dance: Not good enough Special moves, so time to make a Physical Water type. Mix might work, but Swords Dance is given, so why pass up on this great move?

Waterfall: An obvious choice.

Megahorn: Deals with Grass types, and has high power.

Night Slash: I like this. I really dislike having to face Ghost types, no matter what Pokemon I am using. Also more reliable for hitting Psychic.

I would replace swords dance with bulk up, but otherwise I like it.
And it can't learn Bulk Up.
How does Samurott learn night slash???

Samurott is a soild choice for a starter. It's has higher special attack then most water types. My Samurott knows this moves (I don't recommand this moveset)

Surf
Waterfall
Mega horn
Revenge

Here's a good moveset for it:

Surf - A good move for Samurott. It has nice power, special based, and has nice PP.

Ice beam/Mega horn - both good are powerful to grass, but if your looking for peer power, use
mega horn. If your looking for special based power, use ice beam.

Grass knot - For water types that think they could defeat Samurott.

Air slash - Extra coverge.

Samurott (torrent)
adamant, leftovers, 252 Att/ 252 Spe/ 4 HP

  • Sword Dance
  • Dragon Tail
  • Copycat
  • Aqua Jet (final move before death with priority, get power up from torrent and sword dance)

so, have another pokemon set stealth rock, spikes, toxic spikes, and switch to samurott set sword dance once and have fun dragon tailing using copycat with normal priority.

answered Feb 1, 2012 by Dark"jo"ray
This wouldn't end well, since copycat has no priority with samurott's low base speed, and poor defensive bulk. It's more built for attacking.
that's the reason that it must maxed speed stat, eventough he is not that fast but 262 is enough, i think,
even so, this is a good way to make use copycat, isn't it?

Samurott
Item: Choice-scarf
Ability: Torrent
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 S.Attack, 252 Speed, 6 Hp

Surf, Hydro-pump or Scald

Ice-beam

Air-slash

Hidden-power(Ground)

Your choice of STAB, Surf is for reliable power, Hydro-pump is for power, and Scald is lower power but chance of burn if you really want it. Ice-beam is coverage. Air-slash is also coverage. And once again Hidden-power(Ground) is coverage. This has nothing that resists it and covers 417 Pokemon for super-effective damage.

Physical Attack Samurott@ Life Orb

Samurott (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 60 Atk / 68 Def / 128 SAtk
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Megahorn
- Hydro Pump
- Dragon Tail
- Revenge

Mixed tank is my favorite for this guy.

Megahorn + Hydro Pump gives some nice coverage options.

Dragon Tail + Revenge are milking all they can off of that Brave nature. Dragon Tail for threats you can't take down, but can take a hit from. Revenge for things that you can take a hit from, but need a little bit of an extra push to take down >:)

Expert Belt is a nice item choice because you're running 4 attacking moves that give pretty good coverage.

Movesets
Waterfall/Razor Shell : Flinch vs Critical Hit
Megahorn/X-Scissor/Air Slash : No Effect or Critical Hit or another Flinching move

Samurott

Samurott @ Salac Berry
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd,- Atk)
- Substitute
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot

Eh, thought i'd post my new Samurott set. So i made this up with my friend, Jassen.
This Samurott set is very unorthodox to say the least. Special Samurott is already an uncommon sight, but Substitute and Salac Berry takes the surprise factor to a whole new level. With Spikes support, this set can sweep through unprepared teams with ease. Samurott's best checks, Alomomola and Amoonguss, are both 2HKO'ed on the switch by the appropraite move if hazards are up. After Salac Berry, Samurott reaches 393 Speed, good enough to outrun every unboosted threat with the exception of Electrode. Activiting it also puts Samurott in Torrent range, which allows it to hit extremely hard with Surf. Even without a boost, Samurott outspeeds many threats such as Emboar, Absol, Adamant Braviary, Drifblim, and other Samurott. This is possibly the best Samurott set to use right now since Swords Dance is so easily walled by Alomomola and Amoonguss.

Samurott - Water-type
Ability: Torrent

Physical moveset
Item: Wide Lens
-Megahorn - Great power, good accuracy but can be ok with Wide Lens and beats Grass-type
-Dig - Nice power, great accuracy and beats Electric-type
-Swords Dance - Obvious if you want to deal Physical damage
-Waterfall - Nice power, great accuracy, can flinch the target and gains STAB, but can be more powerful with Torrent Ability(Only if you have 1/3 of HP)
Hint: You can change Waterfall to Scald(Can burn the target(30% chance), gains STAB but can be more powerful with Torrent Ability(Only if you have 1/3 of HP)) or Hydro Pump(Great power, good accuracy but can be ok with Wide Lens and gains STAB, but can be more powerful with Torrent Ability(Only if you have 1/3 of HP))

Special moveset
Item: Mystic Water
-Hydro Pump - Great power, good accuracy and gains STAB, but can be more powerful with Mystic Water or Surf - Good power, great accuracy and gains STAB, but can be more powerful with Mystic Water and Torrent Ability(Only if you have 1/3 of HP)
-Scald - Nice power, great accuracy, can burn(30% chance) and gains STAB, but can be more powerful with Mystic Water and Torrent Ability(Only if you have 1/3 of HP)
-Hidden Power(Ground) - Not bad power, great accuracy and beats Electric-type
-Air Slash - Nice power, great accuracy, can flinch and beats Grass-type
Hint: You can change Air Slash to X-Scissor - Nice power, great accuracy and beats too Grass-type

Equilibrated moveset:
Item: Absorb Bulb
-Hydro Pump - Great power, good accuracy and gains STAB or Surf - Good power, great accuracy and gains STAB, but can be more powerful with Torrent Ability(Only if you have 1/3 of HP)
-Dig - Nice power, great accuracy and beats Electric-type
-Ice Beam - Good power, great accuracy, can freeze the target(10% chance) and beats Grass-type
-Substitute - Good move. Perfect to destroy Fury Cutter xD

Defensive(Status) moveset:
Item: Lax Incense
-Substitute - The second most perfect status defense move in my opinion
-Toxic - To deals damage in oponent
-Attract - The third most perfect status defense move in my opinion
-Protect - Use Toxic first and use only Protect. The oponent will die and you will be with no damage!(But no pp...)

Offensive(Water-type) moveset:
Item: Mystic Water
-Hydro Pump - Great power, good accuracy and gains STAB, but can be more powerful with Mystic Water and Torrent Ability(Only if you have 1/3 of HP)
-Surf - Good power, great accuracy and gains STAB, but can be more powerful with Mystic Water and Torrent Ability(Only if you have 1/3 of HP)
-Scald - Nice power, great accuracy, can burn the target(30% chance) and gains STAB, but can be more powerful with Mystic Water and Torrent Ability(Only if you have 1/3 of HP)
-Aqua Tail - Good power, good accuracy and gains STAB, but can be more powerful with Mystic Water and Torrent Ability(Only if you have 1/3 of HP)

Critical moveset
Item: Scope Lens
-Focus Energy - Raises the critical hit ratio
-Slash - With Focus Energy in effect and Scope Lens and if possible use Dire Hit in the start of battle I think will be 100% Critical hit
-Night Slash - Same as Slash
-Fury Cutter - If you use consecutively the Fury Cutter will be more strong, and is good cause have high chance of Critical hit if Focus Energy is in effect and Scope Lens and of possible use Dire Hit in the start of battle

Ninja moveset
Item: Razor Fang
-Substitute - Kawarimi no Jutsu!(Substituition Jutsu)
-Double Team - Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!(Shadow Clone Jutsu)
-Air Slash - Kaze Shuriken no Jutsu!(Wind Shuriken Jutsu)
-Retaliate - Revenge of the fallen ninja
Hint: You can change Air Slash for Trump Card - Hissatsu waza!(The final move) and change other one Jutsu for False Swipe - "Shinobi's technic is make a trick on opponent" or Aqua Jet - Ninjas are fast!
Note: Samurott is a SAMURAI not a NINJA but nvm this xD

Samurai moveset
Item: Razor Fang
-Shell Blade - "The Shell Katana"
-Slash - "The Katana"
-Night Slash - "The Shadow Katana"
-Swagger - Say: "My Katana is the n°1 in the world" and make the opponent angry

-Why in Special moveset have 1 Physical move and in Physical moveset have 1 Special move?
R:I think is good put 1 different move cause what will happen if lowers Attack to minimum and raise Defense to maximum in Physical moveset and lowers Special Attack to minimum and raise Special Defense to maximum in Special moveset?

gud creativity in the moves' names/ whatever u call u call/ captions.. :)
Your offensive set has nothing but water type moves, and double team is banned in competetive battling.
A mixed Samurott is good, I'd say.....
Anyway, why did you say Samurott's not a ninja?? O_O

this would be an easy move set for this dude if his special attack is high(and this is what mine knows by the way)

  • hydro cannon(STAB)
  • grass knot(you do not know how many Pokemon I knocked out with this!)
  • blizzard/ice beam(covers grass weakness)
  • hidden power(ghost. and to cover psychics and ghosts)
hidden power by the way changes with each Pokemon NOT each species

Late-Game Broom Gen Vl

Samurott: Ability-Torrent Nature: Modest

Held Item: Choice Scarf

EVs: 252 SpAtk/ 252 Spe/ 4 Hp
MoveSet

IceBeam-Great type coverage and damage all wrapped into one.
GrassKnot-An Excellent choice for those other annoying water Pokemon.
AirSlash-Another niche attack, but I can vouch it comes in handy from time to time.
Brine-My personal choice (opposed to HydroPump/Scald). With Modest nature and properly invested EVs it will OHKO the obvious fire types.

Notes_Please feel free to use which ever water move you would like but, I find Brine is actually an amazing threat on this set allowing it to OHKO entire teams late game who weren't prepared(most aren't) . after your team has worn down the defensive core you can bring in Samurott again to basically execute everything that remains with 130 stab move. Try it out ^ ^
