Spore-100% to sleep can cripple your foe instantly, you get a free switch, and most of the time, when I see a foe with a sleeping pokemon, they don't send it out unless it is their last pokemon. Just remember the sleep clause...

Payback/Energy ball-Pay back covers psychics, while energy ball gives more type coverage.

Synthesis/Ingrain-Ingrain isn't as good in this case since spore will likely force your opponent to switch. Meaning they'll switch into a super effective pokemon knowing you can't switch.

I didn't put venom shock because between his effect spore ability, and his move spore, there's quite a chance of the double power not happening.

I don't think you guys understand that this guy is a wall, not a slow sweeper. Nevertheless, here's a double battle moveset for Amoonguss.

                                Protect, Substitute, or Double Team

You can't go wrong with Spore. It has a 100% (or 99.6% to be exact) chance of making the foe fall to sleep. Rage Powder makes the opponents hit amoonguss, which is great if you have a tank or sweeper ally (especially slow ones like reuniclus). Giga Drain is a great move in inflicting a decent amount of damage and for gaining some HP. Protect would be good for gaining HP from black sludge while not getting hit from the opponent. Substitute would be great for a wall (period), and Double Team so that nobody hits you when you use Rage Powder. Overall, this guy would be great in double battles.

I personally use an amoonguss with this moveset and it works very well. With all that HP and defenses, it seems to me that it is a no-brainer that this guy should be used as a wall (but for wifi double battles ONLY), and even though amoonguss doesn't have very good moves, these (in my opinion) are the best moves that an amoonguss can have. I know there are going to be people that disagree with me on this one, but I use this moveset myself and it works great. Also, I would prefer Protect over Substitute and Double Team.

A pathetic mushroom, can't even use the mushroom on its head to catch Pokemon. Parasect is better, and Breloom is way way way better.

Toxic: THe foe is likely going to switch out, so now you can just badly poison them

Venoshock: They are poisoned, so damage is doubled, and you also have STAB.

What do you mean? I know you can't put them to sleep and also poison them, but the foe is going to switch out when you put them to sleep, thus meaning you can no longer put any more foes to sleep due to the sleep-clause, meaning you'll have to make due with poisoning them.

Amoonguss may seem inferior to Breloom and even Parasect, but there is at least one thing that differentiates this shroom from the other two: Clear Smog, which acts like a Haze that CAN'T be stopped by Taunt. Given Amoonguss's defenses it can stand in an enemy's way and smog away their stat boosts, perhaps after putting them to sleep with Spore.

Growth raises both attacking stats by 2 stages in the sun, which is really cool.
Solarbeam hit's in 1 turn, thanks again sun, while Payback is cool coverage, especially with how slow this guy is. Synthesis can keep you alive for a while, one again, it gets boosted by the sun.

This is my first post :D
As much as Amoongus is completely useless in single battles, he has an incredible assistance in Double Battles. He can be annoying to the opponent and difficult to take out if you team him up with the correct Pokemon.

Amoongus (Male)

Nature: Quirky (Neutral)
Ability: Effect Spore (May sleep, poision or paralyze enemy when touched)
Item: Black Sludge

• Protect; good if Trick Room is used.
• Attracr; Less chances for opponent to attack if paralyzed
• Spore; annoy them.
• Rage Powder; help your ally, I suppose.

I use Amoongus either with Eelektross or Jellicent (maybe Chandelure). Eelektross is a good backup to paralyze and poision opponents, and beast if given U-Turn to quickly leave and make way for an attacker. Jellicent is great with Trick Room and to take down those pesty fire and psychic types that can easily take down Amoongus. I'd give Chandelure escape button so it can do its job with trick room and then leave. To summarize, its great in doubles if used with the correct pokemon.
