What is a good moveset for Dragonite?

Here we go with Dragonite, one of the original uber-pokemon. It has a big movepool so there could be a lot of good answers here...

Rain abuser set:

Surf-gets powered from the rain.

Thunder-Picks off threats like Kabutops and Gyarados.

Hurricane-STAB, 100% accuracy. It's neutral against scizor and is special, so it has a good chance to break through him.

Dragon Pulse/hidden power [fighting]/focus blast/Roost-Dragon pulse offers STAB, focus blast breaks through ferrothorn, and hidden power does the same, but if a bit more reliable. It also covers his ice and rock weakness. Roost restores health and keeps his multiscale ability active.

Good idea, but the fourth move should be Rain Dance.
This is for rain teams, so you would have politoed.
A wonderful moveset for this kind of thing, and something you won't see often, making it even more effective.
Wonderful moveset! Recently read how Dragonite is the only pokémon to have both Hurricane and Thunder. Even though Dragonite's stats compliment physical moves more

Dragon Claw (or Dragon Rush) or Dragon Pulse. Depends on stats. Does not confuse like Outrage.

Waterfall: Coverage and seems to make the foe flinch a good amount of the time.

Earthquake: High power/accuracy, type coverage, good to attack digging foes.

Dragon Dance: Good Stat move.

Yeah Dragon Claw is a good option. I just like Outrage because you can usually KO a couple of pokemon before getting confused :)
Good, but I don't care for stat raising moves much. Epessially for dragonite. Alot of pokemon have ice moves and while you are kind of wasting your time with dragon dance, an unexpected ice beam could easily KO you.
Usually I use Dragon Dance only when there is a chance of a "break", for example if I know someone's gonna switch out, or they were a fool and used Hyper Beam ;)

This one is pretty awesome I think:
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Superpower
- Earthquake

There are so may choices, you could add in Waterfall or Fire Punch, both get good type coverage.

Gen V

Dragonite (M) @ Leftovers

Trait: Multiscale

EVs: 252 Atk / 156 SDef / 100 Spd

Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)

  • Dragon Dance
  • Roost
  • Dragon Claw
  • Fire Punch

Set up Dragon Dance then start hitting the opponent hard. Dragon Claw provides STAB, while Fire Punch deals with Steel types. Multiscale is a great ability, giving Dragonite incredible bulk, possibly allowing it to survive an Ice attack even. You can then use Roost to get yourself back up to full health to make use of Multiscale. Leftovers provideas more bulk. Your EVs give you nice bulk, and good stats for sweeping with Dragon Dance.

Fire punch/blast or flamethrower for ice types,
Thunderbolt(for parylzylation(did I spell that right?) and good power against quite a few types)
Dragon Claw(for strong STAB)

EV's 252 HP 252 ATK

Dragon Tail ( Nail them hard for the switch into hazards )
Earthquake ( Coverage )
ExtremeSpeed ( Priority )
Fire Punch ( Ice coverage )

A good move set would be...

outrage-to deal with most dragon types

aqua tail-for type covrage and because of its attack stat

stone edge-for type covrage and again because of attack stat

earthquake-because of attack

i hope this move set helps!

Ground isn't good against ice.
But Rock is.

First off equip the persim berry

outrage: STAB amazing with his attack power and persim berry takes care of confusion

Ice beam: great move

thunderpunch: better than tbolt because of his attack stat

roost: its nice to be able to heal

First move I see on any Dragonite: Dragon Dance. Well, say hello to Parashuffler Dragonite.

Dragonite

Dragonite (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 156 SDef / 4 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Thunder Wave
- Dragon Tail
- Roost

Parashuffler Dragonite is one of the most underrated sets of all time. This can team holes in entire teams using only 1 attacking move. The Lefties gives me constant recovery, and lowers the usage of Roost. My EVs even my Defenses out at 275 and 386 HP. Beast, huh? Substitute lets me avoid some damage, and helps on Walls that will try to set up on me. Thunder Wave cripples many Sweepers, and occasionally haxes them, giving me a free Dragon Tail to cripple another. Dragon Tail Phazes foes, many of which will be Paralyzed by Thunder Wave. Finally, Roost gives me reliable recovery and prolongs my support. You can find a different form of it here, but I disreccomend it because you are killed by Physical moves. The set I posted is even better if you have Hazards up.

Hope you like!

Here's my opinion, switch out dragon rush with either outrage or dragon claw.(unless you WANT to miss the opponent ;)
What's wrong with this answer?
Nothing's wrong, I just don't think Dragon Rush is that effective. It's my own opinion.

Dragonite (M) @ Light Clay

description

Role: Mixed Tank / Screener

Trait: Multiscale

EVs: 100 HP / 96 Atk / 156 Def / 156 SAtk

Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)

  • Outrage
  • Light Screen
  • Fire Blast
  • Roost

I had to test this, and I just wanted to share the quote that the guy I battled used.

" You have got BALLS to use Light Screen on a Dragonite ".
Now, onto the description.

Light Screen provides great team support for other tanks running around, and lets you use a Naught Nature for Mixed Attacking. Yay!

Outrage just lets you bulk jank off while you tear through a small portion of your opponent's team, Not Forgetting Multiscale lets you take the attack setting up Light Screen much better, And Fire Blast covers Steel Types ( Very Defensive physically ) And Ice Types ( Major weakness ) Fairly well, Light Clay makes your Light Screen worth while lasting for 8 turns.

Here's some pretty good movesets:

Physical ~
• Dragon Dance - for setting up Attack and Speed.
• Dragon Claw/Outrage - great power, STAB, and depending on which you prefer (I'd give it Dragon Claw so that you won't have to stay locked on Outrage)
• Extremespeed - for sweeping and for priority priority priority.
• Roost - for keeping your Dragonite alive.

Special ~
• Ice Beam - for coverage from other Dragon types.
• Roost - to heal and keep your Dragonite alive
• Substitute - to give you a chance to heal
• Thunderbolt/Flamethrower - for good power and more coverage (Thunderbolt for Flying types and more or Flamethrower for Ice types)

Rest
Flamethrower

Dragon-pulse

Rest is 1 turn thanks to shed-skin so it is reliable healing. Flamethrower covers Steels. Toxic is for stalling. Dragon-pulse is for covering the one weakness and STAB.

Shed Skin is only a percent chance at healing SLP status, so it may not always be one turn; just a heads up.

Dragonite (M) @ Life Orb/Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Satk / 4 Def/Sdef or Spd
Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def)
- Superpower
- Roost/Light Screen
- Draco Meteor
- Haze

Pretty simple set here. The idea is to have a Dragonite that can phaze out opponents. He can use superpower to break down Tyranitar, and Draco Meteor offers STAB. The stat drops you get with all these moves are cancelled out thanks to haze, and he can also cancel out the opponent. Roost is there to restore his health and reactivate his ability. It also lets him switch in on pokemon that try to come in. He also resists the main priority moves, mainly mach punch and aqua jet. Watch out for ice shard though.

Bulky Dragonite

Item:leftovers

ability: Multiscale

Light screen-boosts up special defense. Ice beams don't do as much to him now. Most physical moves are fighting, ground, and rock type. He resists figthing, is immune to ground, and can deal with rock types using his sweeping move.

roost-Restores health. Very annoying when used with multiscale, light screen and leftovers.

dragon dance-Boosts up attack power and speed.

dragon claw/outrage-Sweeping move +STAB. Only steel types can resist this move.

If you want even more fun, try baton passing defense to him beforehand.

Sweeper Dragonite

Dragonite # Leftovers
Nature: Jolly (^Speed -Sp Atk)
Ability: Multi Scale / Inner Focus
~ 252 Atk EVs / 252 Speed EVs / 6 HP EVs

  • Dragon Dance
  • Fire Punch
  • Thunder Punch
  • Dragon Claw

Okay! So here you have another Sweeper set for Dragonite. You have Dragon Dance for when a foe decides to switch out, or whenever you get a chance to get some stat boosting in. Next is Fire Punch to help destroy Ice types and random coverage, and same goes with Thunder Punch. Use when needed!
Dragon Claw is the STAB attack for every other type of Pokemon that won't take a super effective move in their face. With two Dragon Dances, Dragonite might be able to sweep an entire team, but good luck with setting up two Dances first! Leftovers is for healing your HP back while sweeping, if nothing hits you. Heck, if you have Multi Scale, and Leftovers heals your HP full, you'll be protected again!

Double/Triple battle

Dragonite (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Fly

I like teaming it up with an Audino. Rock Slide and Earthquake hit multiple foes. Dragon Claw is STAB. Fly is STAB that is less predictable in Triples and can hit any foe.

- Outrage- high power, STAB, and kills multiple opponents
- Stone Edge- high power and kills Ice type weakness
- Dragon Dance- Increases ur power and speed
- Earthquake/Any elemental punch/Waterfall- this last move is ur choice depending on what ur needs are but I would go with Earthquake because it has the most power and has good type coverage

Haze? why?
To make his -2 SAtk, -1 Atk, -1 Def revert back to normal.
then why inner focus? Multiscale is better
Maybe lack of access to a DW Dratini?? They require 10,000 Dream Points to unlock.

Dragonite

Very powerful Pokémon and he has a humongous movepool, therefore it could be hard to choose. Here is a moveset that covers all of its weaknesses and can be used effectively.

Fly STAB, great power, high accuracy and helps you get around from town to town
Dragon Claw/Dragon Pulse STAB, coverage (Dragon), it is up to you whether you want to have a physical or special attack
Flamethrower coverage (Ice), Dragons look awesome with a fire move and fire is awesome anyway
Earthquake coverage (Rock), this move is awesome against tons of Pokémon
