What is a good moveset for Hitmonchan?

1 vote

My sister just traded me her Hitmonchan. It knows:

Mega Punch: Hitmonchan's ability powers it up.

Vacuum Wave: Attacks first, STAB.

Thunderpunch: Deals with Flying types. Powered up by ability.

Ice Punch: Deals with Flying types. Powered up by ability.

Your move set is great. You might want to give it pursuit or theif to deal with psychic types, but since those moves aren't very strong and your ability does not help them you should think about it first.

Mach Punch: A truely powerful priority with Hitmonchan.

Ice Punch: Deals with Flying types.

Fire Punch: Deals with Bug types.

Earthquake: Deals with Poison types.

An excellent option is Focus Punch, which is incredibly powerful with Hitmonchan, although Close Combat is more reliable.

Umm, why would hitmonchan want to deal with bug types when they aren't very affective on him?
Because otherwise it cannot hit them...

Gen V

Hitmonchan (M) @ Choice Band

Trait: Iron Fist

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd

Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

  • Bullet Punch
  • Drain Punch
  • ThunderPunch
  • Ice Punch

All moves get boosted by Iron Fist. Bullet Punch provides priority, Drain Punch is STAB that also heals you, and Thunder and Ice Punch are type coverage. Sweeping EVs.

Lil Jackie (Hitmonchan) (M) @ Leftovers

description

Role: Tank

Trait: Iron Fist

EVs: 252 HP / 100 Atk / 16 Def / 140 SDef

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

  • Bulk Up
  • Drain Punch
  • Ice Punch
  • ThunderPunch

Its pretty self explanitory.

Hitmonchan already has nice Sp Def, so just a few more Ev's in there, and then Bulk Up takes care of your Physical Defense.

STAB Drain Punch + Leftovers is always nice,

And Fire Punch + Thunder punch is good coverage.

I use pretty well the same set, my EVs vary a bit to my taste, but not much. One thing I would suggest is to use Big Root, it gives a 30% increase in power to Hitmon's STAB Drain Punch (150 power after factoring STAB, Iron Fist, and Root Boosts). As Drain Punch is the most used attack on this set, increasing its power (and recovery) further will only help your success.

What I would give mine is:
Sky uppercut (stab)
Ice punch (type coverage)
Natural gift (with the berry which will effect psychic types, it works quite well with my torterra, I had to use it had no good rock type attacks left)
Thunderpunch (tupe coverage)

Double/Triple Battle

Hitmonchan (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Rock Slide
- Drain Punch
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

Rock Slide hits multiple Pokemon, as does Earthquake. Drain Punch is STAB. Ice Punch is type coverage. Some Pokemon are just straight-foward.

-Focus Punch(godly with substitute)
-Ice punch(Deals with Dragon/Flying/Grass/Ground)
-Well the last move's your choice!

This is my first answer plz tell me how I did!

I would deff put in a last move and not leave a " your choice " that's an easy way to get down-voted.
A suggested nature and role / EVs is also nice so viewers have more of an idea of what you're aiming for. For this particular set I would suggest Thunder Punch for good coverage with Ice Punch.
