Energy Ball: Good power, high accuracy, STAB, chance to lower Sp. Def.

Safeguard: Protects from Status ailments.

If your going to have safeguard, use petal dance instead of energy ball, its stronger, and with safegaurd, you wont get confused.
Also, ADD TOXIC!! With Meganiums defenses, it can easily defend a long time while the opponet is murdered by toxic. This is probably the best sweeping strategy for meganium though it only needs one move. Also, synthesis might help if Meganium starts to weaken, you can heal it back up with this so toxic can finish the opponet off. Keep Earthquake.

Overall, I would go with toxic, earthqauke, energy ball, and synthesis for a good toxic sweeping meganium.

Just thought I'd throw in some movesets. I am using the Special one, except with Safeguard and Petal Dance instead of Aromatherapy and Energy Ball. Also use Toxic and not Grasswhistle.

Physical Attack Moveset:

Aromatherapy: Very useful way to heal status problems.
Earthquake: For obvious reasons.
Seed Bomb: Being a great physical Grass attack.
Swords Dance: Greatly increases Attack.

Special Attack moveset:
Grass Whistle/Toxic: Either put the foe to Sleep or Poison them.
Aromatherapy: Heals status conditions.
Energy Ball: Powerful special grass attack.
Earthquake: Still great even with higher Sp Attack.

Seeing as NOBODY even wrote out a moveset based on Maganium's Niche, I will:

Sleep Powder (Put the opponent to sleep)

Leech Seed / Energy Ball Ancientpower (Use Leech Seed W/ Big Root for great stalling, or Energy Ball for reliable STAB. Ancientpower has low PP Capacity, but deals with all of Meganium's weaknesses)

Light Screen (One Screen)

Reflect (TWO SCREENS)

Meganium is great for its Dual-Screening prowess. I don't get why nobody even mentioned it. It can get a nuisance out of the way with Ancientpower, or cripple the opponent with Sleep Powder, and then put Dual Screens and switch safely. Meganium's niche is the best way it can be played.

EDIT: Godammit, another Gen IV mistake. No Sleep Powder for Meganium in gen IV. Oh wait, not a Gen IV mistake, just confusion with Grasswhistle, which isn't worth it at all. -_-

In that case, Energy Ball, Leech Seed, and Ancientpower ca be played around with.

Those are valid, but many other Pokemon benefit from it more (Support Dragonite, Psychic-types, Vileplume, etc).

Also, you want to make use of Meganium offensively, after it sets up Dual Screens, otherwise it'll fall to Taunt, or will force you to switch.

The idea here is to stall stall stall!
First, you set up with Leech Seed to start draining your opponents HP. It's preferable you have the opponent poisoned beforehand so that Meganium won't have to use Toxic themself (maybe with Toxic Spikes). But just in case, have Toxic to start damaging your foe anyway. After using any of the above moves, Leech Seed, Toxic, Energy Ball/Synthesis, use Protect! It will give you a free turn of healing HP with Leech Seed and Leftovers! Since Protect probably won't work two or more times in a row, use it every two turns! Just be sure to use PP Up on that move if necessary. Than finally, you have Energy Ball and Synthesis. Depending if you feel like you need an attacking move, or another HP healing move in case of whatever, this is your choice. l prefer Energy Ball, since you may not be able to Leech Seed or Toxic your last foe, spam Energy Ball and hope you KO them!

This is preferred for Generation IV, but with small modifications, you can make this an effective Meganium in Generation V.

Maybe do it for the more obscure moves. I wouldn't do it for something like flamethrower, but maybe for the lesser used moves that people aren't as familiar with.

Rest is healing and makes him sleep. Sleep-talk makes him use moves while sleeping and gives all moves 0 Priority. Dragon-tail gets 0 priority while asleep, and is the main part of the strategy. Ancient-power has a chance of boosting everything, while Swords-dance is guaranteed to boost Attack so Dragon-tail does tons of damage.

Yeah, Meganium sucks, although my brother likes him for some reason. Meganium is only going to be of help by supporting your team. So it has Dual-Screens (and Light Clay) in addition to Aromatherapy to remove status on your team. It starts to run out of support though, so Giga Drain is there to stop Taunt from completely stopping Meganium. Max defenses so you can get everything up.

I barely ever see Entry Hazards. The lack of switching makes them much less useful. Plus, the time it takes to set them up leaves you incredibly vulnerable.

What I think is best for Meganium is this:

Reflect - Meganium is weak to Attack-based types
Petal Dance - Sweeper move to take down annoying foes
Safeguard - To protect from confusion and the abilty Synchronise
Toxic - To annoy the foe and to cause fainting in foes

I'm a mix of all the suggestions, but I'll try this on my brother's Meganium and see how it goes.
