Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset for Skarmory?

4 votes

Mine knows:

Night Slash: Decent damage, high accuracy, good chance for critical hit.

Drill Peck: Good damage, high accuracy, STAB.

Steel Wing: Decent damage, decent accuracy, chance to raise defense, STAB.

Agility: Increases Speed. Skarmory is fairly slow for a Flying type.

What? A good QuestioN?
LOL. I am so forgetful today. I meant moveset.
Switch agility with autotomize, and maybe night slash with spikes or stealth rock. (sorry I know this was 9 months ago)
Skarmory (M) @ Shed Shell
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)

Mean look + taunt
Who uses Mean Look? The answer is nobody.
Gengar, Bantte ...
Nope, none of those will carry Mean Look in a competitive enviroment.
If you go to any of the tornaments ive been to ive been ruined by that exactly
You have some strange tournaments then.
Do Calm Nature instead. It lowers Attack and raises Sp. Defense. Skarmory needs a Sp. Defense boost more than the Defense boost.
This is made specifically to be a Physical Wall
I use mean look in my insta death combo.
Why not use Rock Slide? To cover against Fire and Flying types? take out maybe Whirlwind.  In case of a taunt, you will need an offensive move.

P.S.  Skarmory has been gifted with defense boost already.  So yeah, I agree.  Calm nature can be viable in case you want to wall anything and everything.
is it possible to get a Skar with Whirlwind and Stealth Rock in gen VI?
Without any attack EVs and a mediocre base 80 attack, Rock Slide doesn't provide much coverage or damage and won't do much in case of Taunt, which Skarmory can always switch out of. Also, Whirlwind is important for getting rid of Pokemon that try to boost while Skarmory is setting up, and can be used to rack up residual damage by Whirlwind-ing random Pokemon onto Stealth Rock and Spikes.

Impish Nature
-Stealth rock
-Counter(catch skarmory in gen 3 games and teach this from a move tutor in either FRLF)

Okay a bit odd but the point is first you set up entry hazards. You need a total of 4 turns which is completely possible with his defensiveness and roost. After he is done setting up he can always come back and destroy physical attackers with counter. Get hit by a physical move and strike them back and use roost to recover those damages and repeat this process over and over. Prediction is the only problem here but no one will expect a counter from a skarmory.

Role: Stallerish/SrockSpikes dude for your sandstorm team
Nature: Calm/Careful
EVs: 252HP/200Sp.D/56D/

Toxic (ya know, poison)
Stealth Rock (Entry Hazard)
Spikes (Entry Hazard)
Protect (leftovers recovery, poison for the opponent)

Just... Watch out for taunt.

What about attacks?
Erm, like I said, this is a "Stallerish/SrockSpikes dude for your sandstorm team" and "watch out for taunt" - In other words, He isn't meant to be an attacker. (as You can see, I gave him 0 attack Evs)
I would have thrown Sky drop in there for more stalling, but it's banned in competitive battling. :(

Physical Wall Skarmory with a twist:

Skarmory @ Shed Shell
Ability: Sturdy
Impish Nature
252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
-Whirlwind/Toxic/Drill Peck (filler move)

Counter is the gimmick to this set. Skarmory can wall Mega Pinsir easily, and if it tries to go for a CC, Skarmory's Counter kills it. Oh, and assuming you have Sturdy intact, wave goodbye to your little Talonflame as Skarmory lives Flare Blitz and one-shots with Counter. Shed Shell is to escape from Magnezone.
Only downside is that if you're trying to get it in-game, you're gonna have to do A LOT of transferring.

Skarmory (F) @ Choice Band
Trait: Weak Armor
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Drill Peck / Brave Bird
- Night Slash
- Rock Slide
- X-Scissor

On the off chance you worked really hard to get a DW Skarmory.......

Switch this guy into a move that makes physical contact so that he can start into his sweep with that speed boost already helping him.

Choice Band is also boosting him up by 50%.

Now you have STAB. ( Drill Peck or Brave Bird. )
and coverage. ( Night Slash, Rock Slide, and X-scissor )

Eamudo @ Sitrus Berry??? Life Orb??? Something Else??? I dunno. Give me suggestions.

EVs: 156 Atk, 200 Spd, 100 Def

Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)

Trait: Weak Armor or Sturdy.

-Steel Wing Is STAB + Possible Defense Raise.
-Brave Bird/Drill Peck is STAB. I prefer B-Bird to D-Peck.
-Autotomize or Agility is required for such a slow bird.
-And you can't have an offensive Skarm w/out Swords Dance. (Unless it has a choice Band.)

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Nature : Impish (+ Defense , - Sp. Attack )
EVs: 252 Defense, 184 Speed, 68 Attack, 4 Sp. Defense
Ability : Sturdy

Steel Wing: "move against ice types," STAB, raises defense

Toxic: A combo for Sky Drop.

Sky Drop: Why? works well with toxic and leftovers, evades attacks and even disarm opponents from attacking and buffing (bulk up, Iron defense etc.) :))

Roost: For healing purposes

Gen 6

Item: Leftovers

AB: Sturdy (for Survival against fire and steel types)

Nature: Jolly/Adamant (Skarmory needs more Speed and he has no use for Sp Attack, Adamant if you want Attack instead of Speed)

Drill Peck (Good Dmg, High Accuracy, STAB + lots of uses)

Steel Wing (Good Dmg, ok Accuracy, STAB + Chance of Defence Boost)

Swords Dance/Autotomise (for attack or Speed Boost depending on what you think you need)

Roost (for healing and remaining Sturdy)

Good and nice Moveset for Skarmory, not exactly the most tactical moveset but good for slaying mostly everything XD, the Leftovers and roost helps keeping the Sturdy intact and helps you to come to Attack/Speed (Swords Dance/Autotomise +8 pretty easy and still remaining at mostly full hp if you do it right.

Skarmory @Leftovers/Eject Button

Trait Sturdy
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 Def / 4Hp
Calm Nature (+SDef -Atk)
-Stealth Rock

Stealth Rock and Spikes are when you use Roar so they get damaged. Roost if you are low in HP. Roar to troll them. Eject button if you get hurt and need to switch. Leftovers to gain more HP.
