It should have worked. Try again and make sure you have a wireless adapter in both consoles or a Gameboy link cable. If you are trying to connect them using a DS Lite it will not work, it has to be through two Gameboys.

oh... thank you i see what i have done wrong. can Lgreen trade w/ Lgreen or Fred through DSlite ?or does that have to be gameboys too?

It needs to be via Gameboy.

Yes. They use the same game station and they are the same generation.
