Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset for Azelf?

1 vote

Mine knows:

Psychic: Good power, high accuracy, STAB, chance to lower Sp. Def.

Grass Knot: Deals easily with Ground and Rock types, plus some Water types mostly due to typing.

Flamethrower: Good power, high accuracy, chance to burn, deals with Bug type weakness. Also deals with Steel types.

Taunt: Stops Stat moves from being used by the foe.

Best choice: Psychic, Shadow Ball, Flamethrower, Signal Beam.

Perhaps shadow ball or signal beam to deal with his ghost or dark weakness, Taunt is useful, but his defenses are kind of Frail for him to be taunting. But I'd say it's a good set.

What do you think: Shadow Ball for a bit more power and better ability or Signal Beam to deal with the much more troublesome Dark Type?
I'd go with signal beam. 5 points of base power won't make much difference.

Azelf @ Focus Sash
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- ThunderPunch
- U-turn
- Fire Punch
- Facade

Suicidal Sweeper :D Plus U-turn to escape. How epic would this guy be with Re-generator?

I would give it a flame or toxic orb instead to boost the power of facade.

Item: Life-orb
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 S.Attack, 252 Speed

Psyshock is for STAB. Thunderbolt is for coverage. Flamethrower is more coverage. HP(Ice) gives you a mini-bolt-beam coverage.

Now before you guys start calling this a stupid set, please note this is a SUICIDE T-ROOM LEAD recommended for doubles

Azelf @
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd /
Balance out the Sp def and Def EVs and some attack.
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Trick room
- Explosion

How to use:
First, start off with a t-room, to let your slow bulky and powerful Pokemon attack first. Next, set up reflect and light screen. Use whichever first depending on your team's weaknesses. Once azelf's hp is in the yellow/red zone, depending on how risky you play, get your ally Pokemon to use a protect/detect and use an explosion.

You have no item and no nature for Azelf. Also speed EVs are not a good idea for TR. For the EVs I suggest 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
I edited the answer to make it a little nicer as well.

Well, Azelf's Physical Attack and Special Attack base stats are the same, so it depends on IVs and nature is what set you would use. Here's what I use.

The intents of my set are to be a physical/special sweeper also knowing Stealth Rock. The Red Card is there to support the Stealth Rock, because the first opponent Pokémon could take damage from those too. It's also nice to do that on a Pokémon with Rapid Spin.

252 Attack EVs
252 Speed EVs
4 HP EVs

Jolly Nature (+Speed,-Special Attack)

Stealth Rock
Fire Punch (coverage for Bug types and chance of burn)
Power-Up Punch (coverage for Dark types and Attack boost)
Knock Off (coverage for Ghost types and removes the target's item)

Red Card

252 Special Attack EVs
252 Speed EVs
4 HP EVs

Timid Nature (+Speed,-Attack)

Stealth Rock
Flamethrower (coverage for Bug types and chance of burn)
Dazzling Gleam (coverage for Dark types and hits multiple opponents)
Shadow Ball (coverage for Ghost types and chance of Special Defense drop)

Red Card
