Suggested Item: Wide Lens
Suggested Ability: Drought
Suggested Nature: Calm (+SDef, -Atk)

  • Fire Blast
  • Hypnosis
  • Solarbeam/Confuse Ray/Will-O-Wisp
  • Protect/Roar/Safeguard

This is kind of a Zatoichi Ninetales. I never liked the idea of this thing doing straight up sweeping; you want to keep it safe in case your opponent changes the weather, so I go for a more defensive style. Fire Blast gets STAB as well as sun boost. It also gets pretty good accuracy thanks to the wide lens. Hypnosis causes sleep, and also benefits from the Wide lens. Solarbeam is pretty common to cover all of its weaknesses in a single move. Confuse ray can be used to annoy the opponent, while Will-O-Wisp can be used to burn the opponent. Will-O-Wisp gets boosted accuracy from the wide lens, lets it have a status since sleep clause limits your hypnosis use, and lets Ninetales take physical attacks better. Combine that with its nice special bulk, it's pretty nice. Protect lets it scout out moves, roar allows it to phase and prevent some of the slow pokemon from setting up rocks, and safeguard protects itself and its teammates from status.

Sunny Day-Powers up Fire type moves and makes SolarBeam a 1-turn
attack.

SolarBeam-Good Power and with Sunny Day you won't need to wait 2 turns. Also covers water type weakness,Rock type weakness and Ground type weakness.

Flamethrower-Good accuracy. If you like power more than accuracy,Fire Blast would be good, you could use some PP ups to make its PP higher.

Last move...You choose!

You don't need Sunny Day if the Ninetales have the ability Drought, the last can be roar or hypnosis

Gen V

Ninetales (F) @ Leftovers

Trait: Drought

EVs: 128 HP / 120 Def / 8 SAtk / 252 SDef

Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)

  • Calm Mind
  • Fire Blast
  • Hypnosis
  • SolarBeam

Obviously, bring out the SUN! If you know your opponent has weather different from Sun on their team, just switch out ASAP so you can bring out your other weather team counters and bring out Ninetales later in the hope of taking control of the game after defeating their instant weather. You'll want to start off using Hypnosis, this way you can set up a Calm Mind or two. This makes you hard to take out on the Special side and allows you to do good damage. Your Special Attack still isn't going to be that high, but STAB and Sun boosted Fire Blast is going to do some damage, as is your high base power Solarbeam. Your EVs are intended to help you survive some hits (not high powered ones like a Conkeldurr or Haxorus, but normal lead stuff.) Leftovers also goes along with this.

Ninetales (F) @ Life Orb

Trait: Drought

EVs: 64 HP / 128 SAtk / 64 SDef / 252 Spd

Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

  • Will-O-Wisp
  • Hex
  • Flamethrower
  • SolarBeam/Nasty Plot

Flash Fire can also be good, depends on what suits rest of team. (If you have like a Ferrothorn or something Flash Fire is definitely worth taking a look at.)

Will-O-Wisp Halves the foe's attack.
Hex Gets powered up by Will-O-Wisp.
Flamethrower STAB.
Solarbeam Is good with Drought, Nasty Plot Is very nice boosting move.

Ninetales (M) @ Leftovers

Role: Special Attacker

Trait: Flash Fire

EVs: 4 HP / 248 Def / 160 SAtk / 48 SDef / 48 Spd

Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

  • Hypnosis
  • Nasty Plot
  • Flamethrower
  • Energy Ball

Okay, Most everyone uses Drought Ninetails.

But lets see what it can do without it.

Hypnosis is your Obvious first move, to put foe asleep, meaning their Either gonna take a nap for a few turns, or Switch out, meaning you get to set up atleast 1 Nasty Plot.

Flamethrower gives you a rather powerful STAB attack, and Energy Ball Covers all of your weaknesses.

The answer to what you can do without Drought is....

You can be a really weak Fire type.
Well, he isn't too bad in UU
Compared to what you could be using it is.
Either Way, Sure Nintales Sucks, But the set isn't bad.
Well i think Ninetales rocks :)

Gen III

Ninetales (M) @ Petaya Berry

Ability: Flash Fire

EVs: 56 HP / 72 SAtk / 252 SDef / 128 Spd

Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

  • Grudge
  • Overheat
  • Faint Attack
  • Imprison

Yeah, he sucks.
Overheat is pretty nice with STAB for a single use Attack, he can buff off special hits pretty well.
Faint attack is cool coverage, all he really has for special without Hypno Dreameater.
Now onto his support, I use him on my Mono-Type Fire Gen III team, and he rocks.
Grudge knocks out super effective moves that take you down. Example:

Blastoise:
Surf
Ice Beam
Substitute
Rapid Spin

He wants to take you down with Surf, and you Grudge him.
Now you have a free turn to use something like a Charizard that favors setting up while he switches out.
And Imprison can be handy to screw over someone else's fire type with Overheat, or heck. It can even take down another Grudger, even though they aren't common.

Double/Triple battle

Ninetales (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Imprison
- Heat Wave
- Protect
- Dark Pulse/HP Dragon

Since Drought is banned, we'll have to make use with Flash Fire. Heat Wave is STAB and hits multiple Pokemon. Dark Pulse can hit any foe in a Triple Battle. However, HP Dragon gets perfect (except for Heatran) coverage with Heat Wave. Imprison can screw over some foes. I mean, them not being able to protect themselves with Protect is fairly damaging. And Heat Wave sees good usage. Protect protects you from Surf and earthquake from teammates and opposing attacks.

drought is banned ?!
in what way?
The use of instant weather is banned in non-Uber Doubles and Triples.
oh
that clears it up .Thank you ! :)
Trait- Flash fire
-Flamethrower- standard damage
-Confuse ray- prevents attack from opponent
-will o wisp- burns target
-fire spin- damage each turn (if combined with will o wisp + confuse ray it's horrible to face)

My Ninetales is pretty awesome, but it works better if you lead with a Poke that has some type of entry hazard. It also works well against physical Pokemon. Here it is:

Item: Sitrus berry
Ability: Flash Fire

Extrasensory: It's an awesome move and, because of speed EVs, can be good for dealing with anything weak to psychic.

Flamethrower: Self explanatory

Will-o-wisp: Makes up for defense EVs, and makes physical Pokemonz much easier to deal with.

Roar: This is why this set works best with hazards, good substitute in case Will-o-wisp starts missing alot.

That is the set that I use on my Ninetales, hope this helped!
