Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset (and type) for Arceus?

I don't really know what to do about Arceus' many types and the moves it can learn.

Maybe you should not be saying that out loud because everybody knows that people keep answering questions like these.
Does arceus have the best state total?

Judgement is always a viable option. Earthquake is always a powerful move to have, same with Psychic. The best type for Arceus is Electric because electric is only weak to ground. Teach it Energy Ball to fight ground types.

Keep it a normal Type, since it's the most reliable. (No Dragon typing. C'mon, EVERYONE will expect a Draco-Arceus.)

Since it's a normal-type, its only weakness is Fighting, you could teach it Psychic. You can go for a Physical or Special Route, depending on how you want to use this God of a Pokemon.

PHYSICAL ROUTE:
Zen Headbutt
Last Resort
Earthquake
Dragon Claw

SPECIAL ROUTE:
Psychic
Hyper Voice
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt

Arceus has a MONSTROUS movepool, so it's quite possible I missed something important. It's easy to make a good movepool for it though. Just open that bag, and look for a TM. Chances are, he can learn it. =P

EDIT: Like Trachy said, Electric is also a great type, due to its one weakness and three resistances (electric, steel, and flying). I simply picked normal because of the versatile typing, and easy STAB for both Last Resort and Hyper Voice.

Judgement. One of the best moves in the game.
I have a single complaint with keeping it normal, no Plate boost for Judgement. Judgement is the one move that you need to get. Much better than Hyper Voice.
a good item would be a silk scarf
For special take off ice beam and put on flamethrower that way you have normal effect and above on every pkmn.
yes indeed replace hyper voice for Judgement or energyball for icebeam

Arceus @ Zap Plate
Trait: Multitype
EVs: 252 SAtt / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Modest nature (+SAtt -Att)
- Recover / Flamethrower (429 or 488 Pokémon covered? Your choice!)
- Judgement
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
With Recover, I would use 252 SAtt / 128 Spe / 128 HP

Arceus-Ghost @ Spooky Plate

Trait: Multitype

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Attack / 252 Speed

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

  • Swords Dance
  • Shadow Force
  • Brick Break
  • ExtremeSpeed/Recover

Swords Dance Boosts Arceus' already good attack to nice levels.
Shadow Force is an awasome Ghost type move, only Arceus and Giratina can learn it so it's pretty awasome, STAB.
Brick Break hits Steel-, Dark- and Normal-types super effectively all whom recist Shadow Force.
Does give perfect coverage along with Shadow Force.
ExtremeSpeed allows Arceus to hit faster revengekillers, Recover lets Arceus get up more Swords Dances and is good for staying healthy overall.

Hahaha, leave it to you do do the Ghost Arceus.
actually Arceus cant learn Shadow Force there was a one time give away around the release of Platinum which it knew judgement shadow force roar of time and spacial rend but unless you have one of those and plan on ruining its one time event status then you have no way of getting arceus with shadow force without hacking etc

Flame plate

Item: Flame plate
Ability: Multi-type
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 S.Attack, 252 Speed, 6 Hp

Judgement
Ice-beam
Thunderbolt
Earthpower

Judgement is powerful STAB that even gets boosted by the item, if you use this in the Sun then you will be doing tons of damage. Ice-beam, Thunderbolt, and Earth-power give him super effective coverage over 488 Pokemon and neutral over the rest.

Normal Arceus @ Silk Scarf

  • Swords Dance (Setup)

The Disgruntled goat of DOOM!

Nature: Timid
Ability: Multitype
Item: Earth-plate
Role: Special Sweeper

Judgement
Ice-beam
Thunderbolt
Psyshock

Judgement is major STAB and it has 5 type coverage in this instance. The Classic Bolt-beam coverage makes this guy un-resisted. Psyshock is for Pokemon like Blissey.

Arceus

Disgruntled goat of BULK!

Nature: Bold
Ability: Multitype
Item: Steel plate
EVs: 252 Defense, 252 S.def, 6 hp

Cosmic-power
Recover
Toxic/Will-o-wisp
Refresh/Earth-power

Cosmic power makes your defenses over 500 after one use. Recover is for healing. Toxic is for stalling while Will-o-wisp can also be used but can be used to cut opponents attack. Refresh can remove status ailments while Earthpower can be used to get rid of the steel type that would kill you choose toxic.

I'd definitely go with steel as the best type as it has so many resistances

Ask and you shall recieve. Here is a physical moveset for Arceus, the pokemon god. I use it myself in my ubers team, and it works VERY well.

Arceus
Adamant nature (life orb/leftovers)
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spd, and 4 HP

Swords Dance
Extremespeed
Earthquake
Recover

Swords dance is a very helpful move, as Arceus can take almost any hit and, after a swords dance, is an instant powerhouse. Extremespeed is one of the premier moves, to be used right after SD to demolish the opponent's team. Earthquake takes out the rock and steel types. Recover is used to increase Arceus's longevity. Why no plate, you ask? Well, Arceus, being a normal type, already has only one weakness, and you can really notice the difference of power when you have a life orb instead of a plate, and the main move is extremespeed, so why would you change the type when you can have a life orb boosted STAB move with +2 priority? Leftovers is also a good item to be used instead of life orb, though you will definitely notice the lack of ridiculous power that life orb gives.

Freezing Rain

Item: Icicle-plate
Ability: Multitype
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 S.Attack, 252 Speed, 6 Hp

Judgement

Thunder

Shadow-ball

Recover or Calm-mind

You do not need splash plate to perform in the Rain, he even works as Groudon Killer! Judgement is his signature move, always STAB, it has 180 Base-power and is super-effective on Groudon, it will always OHKO unless full EVs are spent in Groudon's S.Defense and HP, and it has super-effective coverage on about half of the rest of Uber as well. Thunder get 100% with Kyogre support and his great coverage paired with Judgement. Shadow-ball is awesome coverage in Uber. Recover is for you to last longer while Calm-mind would be for boosting.

Note: If you plan on running this outside of rain remember to switch Thunder for Thunderbolt.

Arceus-Grass @ Meadow Plate

Trait: Multitype

Role: Sunny Sweeper

EVs: 60 HP / 252 SAtk / 196 Spd

Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

  • SolarBeam
  • Flamethrower
  • Earth Power
  • Ice Beam

Remove ice beam for scald or waterfall for fire/flying types
But then scald and waterfall would be less powerful in the sun

Arceus-Dark @ Dread Plate

Trait: Multitype

EVs: 124 HP / 100 Atk / 32 Def / 220 SAtk / 32 SDef

Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)

  • Judgment
  • Earthquake
  • Ice Beam
  • Brick Break

I have 3 favorite types, and dark probably comes out on top of the bunch.
But Arceus-dark? Oh... I love it.

Judgement is that jacked up STAB that everyone loves, and when I say jacked up, I mean 100 base power, 100 accuracy, Dread Plate boosted STAB.

Earthquake is awesome coverage, especiall when paired with Ice Beam and Brick Break! :D

Dark, Ground, Ice and Fighting hits 152 pokemon for Normal Effectiveness, and 511 for super effectiveness. That's the awesome part about arceus, he can run awesome coverage.

  • Recover
  • Judgment
  • Thunder

For use in rain.

Arceus-Fire @ Flame Plate

Trait: Multitype

EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Speed

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Judgement
- Draco Meteor / Spacial Rend
- Earth Power
- SolarBeam / Energy Ball

According to the type checker, Fire + Dragon give almost perfect neutral coverage. I know that it does not account for abilities and the only Pokemon I can think of that resist this is Flash Fire Heatran.

So yea, Fire Judgement is powerful STAB, and in the Sun...BAWS. Spacial Rend is for consistent damage while Draco Meteor is more hit-&-run, so your choice.

Earth Power is for Heatran and coverage that might be too bulky for Draco-Flare * cough * Steel-Types * cough *.

The last slot is also your choice. SolarBeam is for Sun teams and powerful coverage, but if you are afraid that the weather might be changed on you, go for Energy Ball.

answered Nov 6, 2012 by 5th of November
Reshiram's Fire+Dragon hits everything.
... making an Uber Sun team later.
You invest EV's in Sp.Atk and give it all those special moves but it has a nature that favours Atk and lowers Sp.Atk. I don't get that.
yeah...

Arceus-Rock @ Stone Plate

Trait: Multitype

EVs: 200 HP / 200 Def / 108 Spd

Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

  • Calm Mind
  • Judgment
  • Grass Knot
  • Recover

Tyranitar should be in the team.

Arceus @ Splash Plate
EVs 4 HP 252 SpA 252 Spe
Timid Nature

Judgement
Thunder
Ice Beam
Energy Ball

IMO good coverage, strong stab, Thunder + Ice beam for Bolt-beam, but use in rain. Energy ball also for coverage.

Sadly, you might as well use Kyogre with Hidden Power Grass instead of this.

Speed freak sent out Shedinja!* Uh oh...
Like shedinja could defeat Arceus. You could stall it to death, since it's so weak it could barely win even if you can't attack it. O just switch.
Whats that 1 no effect?

Since the best 4 move combo would be ghost/fighting/ice/ground
i would suggest
Arceus @ fist plate(fighting)
nature modest: +sp atk ,-atk
ability- Multitype
moveset
earth power
shadow ball
judgement(Fighting)
ice beam
