Pokemon X & Y, new information (Likely spoilers)

Like the BW2 thread, this is just a place to post extra information that I may have missed for the new games X&Y. If you missed the announcement, the news post is here. I also added a basic X&Y information page here.

  • Like before, only add information that I've missed and it's been a few days. I am usually aware of most new information as it happens. Don't forget to check the X&Y page above as well as the news on the front page.
  • Game stuff only, not anime (unless it relates to the games, e.g. new Pokemon appeared in the anime before it was revealed in the games).
  • Reliable sources only i.e. official sites like pokemon.com and pokemon.co.jp. Bulbapedia and Serebii are usually good also. No rumours!
  • Maximum 2 images per answer and not huge ones.
  • Please keep the plot spoilers very low, thanks.

And of course, this page will contain SPOILERS so don't come here if you don't want to read them!

Hey you, actually READ the above before posting answers!

GUYS. RULES:

For the screenshots I didn't see any pictures of the battling feature. I think that should be in.
Nintendo screwed themselves over here tbh. They shouldn't have announced X and Y when people are still buying B/W2.
Saying that as if people won't flock to the streets to buy X and Y.
Hey, get info on the new Pokemon (if there is any) please (and hurry)!
We only get as much info as they release. Patience, young padawan,
lololol det repetition :3
I am not a padawan. I am the "Emperor of the Sky: Rayquaza." I am also a Grass and Water Master. Also a Moveset Master.

This is as to Xerneas's Etymology. But I thought to put it here.

"X" is from X-chromosome. "er" is probably either from Cervus(latin for deer) or Cernunnos (a horned Celtic god). The rest is more difficult. Maybe from "Aureate" a synonym of gold meaning "of golden color or brilliance" which I am saying because of its golden horns and the foreleg/hoof.

X-Chromosome is Xerneas as you said but there is also a Y- Chromosome which is obviously for the other Legendary.
Yeah. But I only had that bit of info on Yveltals etymology
I'm sure that many people have thought of this but to me it also makes sense that the legendaries are based on the cartesian plane because one is vertical and flying well the other is horizontal and travels by running/walking. I thought that this mixed what you said about the Celtic god was a great premise.
On chespins page it already includes what its name is derived from
http://pokemondb.net/pokedex/chespin
Ches- chestnut
Pin- porcupine
Also this would imply that its name would be pronounced CHESPINE
The X could also mean X-Axis. On it's pokedex entry, it says that xerneas protects the horizontal world...

Ok on this link is some official Screenshots.
If you look at the picture of Xernea's horns it has primarily 4 colours which i think relate to the 4 nucleotides :
- Adenine
- Guanine
- Thymine
- Cytosine

As for Yveltal,
Yveltals name comes from the letter Y as we all know but it may also be derived from "yvel" which is a Middle English term for evil.
It could also relate to a quetzal which is a bird shown below.
enter image description here

And now...

The Rumored Typings!!!

Xernea: Psychic/Steel
Yveltal: Dark/Poison
Chespin's evolutions: Grass/Steel
Fennekin's evolutions: Fire/Psychic
Froakie's evolutions: Water/Fighting

Remember they are only rumored typings so it isn't official...Yet.

answered Jan 26 by Scizornician
no possible way yveltal cant be part flying type!
Yvetal is a tuning fork. Sound type.
There's actually a romour going around that Yvetal is Sound/ ? type and Xernas is Light/ ? type (Personally I'm assuming Sound/Flying and Light/Psychic type, but that's just my oppinion.)

I also heard that Chespian might be Grass/Dark at some point in it's evolutions.
Xerneas definitely has some Grass type and Yveltal definitely has some Flying type.
I think your Yveltal name predictions are spot-on.

Some big things were released in this months CoroCoro:

First of all, there are four new pokemon:
1. Gogoat which is a grass type riding pokemon. It is 1.7m and 91.0kg. You can actually ride this Pokémon in the field. It can learn Horn Leech
2. Helioptile which is an electric/normal lizard. It is 0.5m and 6.0kg. It has a new move called Parabola Charge which heals the user while damaging opponents. It uses solar rays to generate electricity.
3. Fletching which is a normal/flying bird and is the Japanese Robin Pokémon. It is 0.3m and 1.7kg. It announces itself with a beautiful voice. It can use the move Flame Charge. Im assuming this is the pidgey/hoothoot/taillow/starly/pidove of Gen 6 but this is just an assumption.
4. Pancham which is a fighting type panda. It is a naughty pokemon and is 0.6m and 8.0kg. It has a new move called Parting Remark which lowers the opponent's attack and special attack and causes the user to switch out.
Pictures of all of them are below.

The Region name is release
The game is set in the Kalos Region which appears to be based on France.

It has been confirmed that you CAN customize your character
You can customise your trainer slightly with hair colour and skin shade. This is all that is confirmed so there hopefully will be more.
Here is an image of some different character customizations:

The city that looks like Paris has had its name revealed
The name is Lumiose City. This is the city in the trailer that has the Eiffel Tower looking building in it. Appearantly it is also the main city in the game similar to Castelia City.

The box art has also been revealed

Lastly diagonal movement has been announced!

Thought I'd reshow this answer now. I heard the news within hours but as most people here know I have been busy dealing with some other stuff. Will update the site when I can.
Im sorry.  I shouldve probably read the rules more :(
Customization!
Here is a YouTube video saying the same things in the above answer.  It also goes a little bit into the new Eevee type.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKKTqJ8R5nI&feature=share
Box art is awesome, but the Pokemonz, ewww
What's diagonal?
you can move at angles instead of just forward, backwards, left, and right.
lol yeah :D

Great job on keeping up to date on the new pokemon related to mewtwo. I've noticed you have a list of pokemon that would belong in this new region's pokedex, because they have been seen in reveal trailers. Well, some previously unconfirmed evolution chains and pokemon will now be in the pokedex,if past experience is anything to serve by.

we already know about magicarp-gyrados, which was also seen in the trailer, but now we have
-genesect
machop-machoke-machamp
cranidos-ramparados
sheddler-cloyster
-zangoose

answered Apr 7 by starscream4ever!
should I hide my answer?
Because of zangoos they would probobly have seviper
I hids mine yours is much better *up-voting*
Lol OK. I agree with you on your zangoose/seviper point, however, having only one pokemon out of a "pair" of pokemon has happened before, (cleffa and so forth but not iglypuff's evolution chain in D/P) so I didn't want to speculate
oh ok it makes sense now

Okay, this may seem small but meh.
It has been implied by this video that Sylveon is strong against Ice and weak against Poison. This can mean that:

  • Sylveon is a new type.
  • New type weaknesses / resistances were implemented.

This says it also..
The end of this video by shofu also says it.

Just a small thing to notice.

answered 4 days ago by Mewderator
Every small thing is important.
I have also heard rumors of a new type coming out. Most of the rumors I have heard point to a LIGHT type
Oh joy, Ice racks up another weakness :/
How do you know that doesn't mean it just resists Ice and is weak to Poison?
good point. Maybe there is still hope for Ice types :D

Yeah, yeah yeah. This one is partial speculation. But this is somewhat important.

Well, A) Japanese title with English word.

B) What I have outlined. Moar Splicers?

PM had a theory about the name of the game relied to chromosomes.
Even i thought the same theory.

Xerneas and Yveltal look very organic.
Xerneas represents a Neuron, Yveltal represents Muscles and Blood.
That means 2 of the 3 germ layers are covered.
Almost all animals develop out of 3 layers.
The third missing layer is the Endoderm.
The third legendary will represent the Endoderm.

At least,that is what i think,but its just a theory.So,not sure.
Pokemon Xylophone and Pokemon Y.Piano.
These are the only names I can think of.
It could be something to do with Mooooossiic
I beleive what you think to be splicers is DNA. We have pokemon R/S/E and D/P/Plt. what will this be X/Y/E    XP
Why is it rainbow?

A new battle mechanism that allows your Pokémon to become even more
powerful when the bonds you share grow stronger.

This is very interesting. Perhaps happiness will get more focus?

Junichi Masuda has a personal blog, I suggest everyone keep updated with it.

Great observation

I finally found something and now I have nothing to say... Just kidding.

Ok, so Xerneas and Yevaltle actually represent the Y-axis and the x-axis. Why? Well, Xerneas represents the X-axis, because it is on the ground and its horns somewhat represent X's. Also Yevaltle represents the Y-axis, because its body is the shape of a Y and can fly up just like how the Y axis goes up.
