Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset for Espeon?

6 votes

I'm going to EV train in HP and Sp. Attack. I'm thinking for moves:

Psychic: STAB, good power, high accuracy, chance to lower Sp. Def.

Baton Pass: Passes on Calm Mind and Substitute.

Calm Mind: Raises special stats, stat boost can be passed by Baton Pass.

Substitute: Allows Espeon to use Calm Mind and can be passed by Baton Pass.

You Cant Have A Sweeper and Pokemon that passes stats with baton pass in one pokemon. Well, Look At These:
Sweeper: Shadow Ball(Good move), Calm Mind(Set up By Subsitute), Subsitute(Sets up Calm Mind), and Psychic(STAB).

Passer(Powers up and passes it): Calm Mind(To Pass), Reflect(To Passs, and help set up calm mind), Toxic(The Damaging move here) and Baton Pass(What Did You Expect?).

Hope This Helps:)

Hey Swampert, nice to see you back again. I have some mopre moveset links if you want to answer them, get some more points so that you can make Pokemaster go into 3rd place. With DT not having been on the site for awhile, maybe even get 1st.
Maybe a replacement for Toxic so as to not be crippled by Taunt?
Maybe Psychic or Shadow Ball, To Lower Their Special Defense.
Im Working On Those Queestions, now.
Done!!:)
So what stats would you have to EV train for if you were going to make Espeon a Passer? I would think Sp. Def & Defense, so he could have a little survivability while you does Calm Mind

The whole concept of this set is to utilise its great Special Attack and ability to Baton Pass at the same time.
__
Reliable Baton Passer Set:

Espeon (M) @Leftovers
Trait: Magic Bounce
EV's: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)

  • Calm Mind - (Boost for Stored Power and general Baton Pass)
  • Baton Pass - (Baton Passing Calm Mind and possibly Subsititue too)
  • Stored Power - (STAB and nice power with Calm Minds set up)
  • Substitute - (Chance to be able to Baton Pass and reliable setting up tool)

With Calm Mind boosts, Stored Power has the potential to sweep, eveb though Espeon's set refers to Baton Pass. Behind Substitute, it can easily become a hazard to many teams.

Sp.Attacker set: espeon has very high sp.Attack and speed stats, so I suggest this set for a sp.attacker

item: Choice specs (increases Sp.Attack by 50%, but can only use one move)
item 2: Life Orb (increases power by 30%, but takes away 10 HP)

Psychic:
STAB, good attack
signal beam: (taught by move tutor)
coverage against dark types
Shadow Ball:
coverage against ghost types
calm mind: (taught by TM)
helps boost sp.attack and sp. defense!

Defensive set:

item:leftovers (restores 1/16 of Holder's maximum HP)

wish:(egg move)
Helps heal HP ((wish is a egg move which can be taught to eevee by breeding an eeveelution or eevee with pikachu or skitty, both pikachu and skitty can learn wish by being bred with togekiss, which can learn wish.))
protect:(TM)
used when waiting for next turn for wish to heal HP.
(TM)toxic/psychic:
I suggest AT LEAST one move that can deal even a bit damage, toxic can take more HP each turn.
light screen/reflect:(TM)
helps puts a barrier around your whole team so attacks wont do much damage to team members.

Speed set:

item: Quick Claw

Double Team:(TM)
Increases speed
psychic:
Nice STAB
return:(TM)
make sure you have high friendship
light screen:(TM)
more protection, helps you have a chance to increase speed

Passer:

item: eject button (when opponent attacks you, you switch out with one of your teammates)

substitute:(TM)
To help set up calm mind
calm mind:(TM)
to pass on
psychic:
Attack move just in case!
baton pass:
To pass on calm mind. ( It can learn baton pass from prior evolution)

HP set:

item:leftovers (restores 1/16 of Holder's maximum HP)
item 2: Light Clay/Heat Rock ( makes sunny day effect to 8 turns instead of 5 turns, perfect for morning sun!)

Sunny day:
Helps morning sun provide a HUGE amount of HP
morning sun:
heals HP, heals more HP if its sunny.
*toxic/psychic:
The attack move in this set
protect:
Can be used when waiting for enemy to faint from poison

Balance Set: set used for all kinds of moves

item: expert belt (increases power of super effective moves by 20%)

Psychic :
Sp.Attack move,STAB
wish:(egg move)
Helps heal HP ((wish is a egg move which can be taught to eevee by breeding an eeveelution or eevee with pikachu or skitty, both pikachu and skitty can learn wish by being bred with togekiss, which can learn wish.))
protect:(TM)
used when waiting for next turn for wish to heal HP.
Signal Beam
Type coverage

whoa so detailed ;o
Oh yeah eject button makes you switch pokemon but it gets rid of all boosts so its pointless on a baton passer or boosting sweeper =/
Also Double Team increases evasion not speed. Life orb also takes 10% health not 10. And Quick Claw is useless on an already fast pokemon like espeon. :L
The speed set needs some work.  Don't use Return on a special attacker.  If you can get it and want a normal attack, use Hyper Voice (Gen 3 Move Tutor)... and yes, the quick claw doesn't make any sense.

Psyshock is much better than Psychic. It can take down special walls like Blissey. Also the only coverage Psychic has over Dazzling Gleam is poison.

This Pokemon is wasted as it has good speed and incredible special attack but most people use it as a baton passer/ screen setter. What the heck people use it as a sweeper!

Nature: Jolly (+sp atk, -atk)
Ability: Magic bounce
Moveset:

Psychic: STAB
Shadow ball: all round good move and coverage for ghost
Calm mind: set up, then destroy while tanking
Signal beam: coverage for dark types

answered by
Why Jolly? That decreases it's very useful Sp. Atk stat and for this set to be a fast special sweeper, right? So I woul switch jolly around with timid so it gets that speed and decreases it's useless attack stat
Well, it does say (+sp atk, -atk).  Probably meant modest.

Espeon@Leftovers/Wise Glasses
Ability:Magic Bounce
EV:252 Spd/252 Sp. Atk/6 Sp. Def

-Calm Mind(a must have for set up sweeping)
-Psyshock(screw those special walls)
-Dazzling Gleam(for Dark types, also good against OU Dragons)
-Substitute/Shadow Ball/HP Fire(Sub for setting up CM and some protection, Shadow Ball for Ghosts, HP Fire for Bugs)

Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Dazzling Gleam
- Psychic
- Signal Beam
- Hidden Power [Fire]

I love using this Espeon set! The coverage is pretty good, and if you predict right, you can switch into a status move, bounce it right back, and deal a hefty amount of damage with specs.

sry if this set is already here, but here goes:

Espeon @ leftovers
Ability: Magic bounce
EVs: 252 SAtk, 128spe, 64 spd, 64 hp
Nature:modest

Moveset: calm mind(for stat boost and somehting else...);

                  signal beam/shadow ball(coverage);
                  Substitute(helps set up CM);
Stored power( risky, but will hit REALLY hard if you boosted enough)

This is actually my set in competitive. enjoy!

I'm not sure if this is an effective use of Espeon, but this is how I use them:

enter image description here

Espeon/M/Leftovers
Ability : Magic Bounce
EVs : 252 Sp/252 SpA/4 SpD
Moveset :
- Calm Mind
- Dazzling Gleam/Signal Beam/Shadow Ball (type coverage)
- Psychic/Psyshock
- Morning Sun

Calm Mind helps boost your special attack/defense even more, boosting your stats (after just one calm mind) from 359 SpA and 227 SpD, to 538 SpA to 340 SpD. I recommend using this move as many times as you think you can.

Dazzling Gleam/Signal Beam/Shadow Ball all help with type coverage. Dazzling Gleam is usually the move I go for, since it seems that more people use more Pokemon that are weak against Fairy- types. Signal Beam has two benefits--it takes out other Psychic- types, along with Grass- and Dark- types, and it has a 10% chance to confuse the target. Shadow Ball covers Psychic- and Ghost- types. Overall, any of these three moves work well

Psychic/Psyshock are STAB moves. I've used Psychic more often than Psyshock (since I fear that I'll go up against a physical wall and Psyshock will do little to no damage). They're both good moves.

Morning Sun is just a HP recovery option. I'm sure you could switch it out with another type coverage move (Dazzling Gleam/Signal Beam/Shadow Ball), but I like to have a way to recover HP. (Along with Morning Sun, you should probably have a Pokemon with the Ability Desolate Land/Drought, or a Pokemon with Sunny Day. This will increase the effectiveness of Morning Sun, since you get health back on a weather-dependent amount.)

Espeon (M) @Leftovers/Light Clay
Trait: Synchronice
EVs: 226 Hp/30 Def/252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
-Psychic (Strong STAB)
-Calm Mind (Makes you tanky and hit like a truck
-Reflect (Helps you set up if enemy is physical)
-Morning sun (Keeps you alive)

This is a different moveset for Espeon. It has reasonable bulk with Reflect and Calm Mind. With Timid nature and max Spd it can outspeed many threats in the metagame, and setup. Only Dark and Steel types can negate this, and force you to switch, thats why you should have a strong Fighting-type Pokemon for counter.

Espeon
Item: Life Orb / Bright Powder
Nature: Modest
EVs and IVs may vary
Preferable EVs are 252 in both Spe and Spa and 4 in Def
Move-set:
- Double Team
- Curse
- Calm Mind
- Stored Power
Explination: This Espeon is a very set-up heavy Pokemon, leading into it is recommended for the most sweeping ability. Start out with Double Team to evasion tank and then move to Curse mainly to raise defense to take hits better. Next is Calm Mind to raise tanking and making it hit like a truck. Then Stored Power will have a base power of 740. The bright powder is so make it evasion tank easier, or the Life orb will help it hit harder. Then adding STAB will make this thing kill almost anything. The only two downsides are that it doesn't have very much type coverage, and it takes forever to set up, but even just one curse and calm mind will give it 120 base power.
