The Normal type is the most basic type of Pokemon. They are very common and appear from the very first route you visit. Most Normal Pokemon are single type, but several have a second type of Flying. (Incidentally, the other Normal dual-types are Girafarig being Normal/Psychic, Bibarel being Normal/Water, Deerling & Sawsbuck being Normal/Grass and Meloetta being Normal/Psychic or Normal/Fighting.)

The chart below shows the strength of the Normal type against every type combination. The numbers in the squares show the fraction damage the move will do (i.e. ½ means 50% damage and not very effective, while 4 means 400% - super-effective).
For example, look where the Grass and Poison types intersect to see how good a Normal-type move would be against a pokemon like Venusaur. You will see that it is 100%.
