Effect
Magma Armor prevents the Pokémon from becoming frozen, for example from moves like Blizzard.
Outside of battle
If a Pokémon with Magma Armor (or Flame Body or Steam Engine) and a Pokémon Egg are amongst the party Pokémon, the number of steps required to hatch the egg are halved.
