Sun/Moon Island Kahunas & Elite Four

Pokémon Sun & Moon switch up the formula - instead of gyms there are Island Trials which consist of various quests. They are overseen by a Trial Captain, who specializes in a certain type (though you do not battle them like gym leaders during the trial). At the end of each island you must battle the Island Kahuna, then after completing all the Island Trials you take on the Elite Four.

After beating each island, some of the Trial Captains may be found in certain locations and be battled with slightly higher level teams, similar to gym leader rematches from past games.

• Ilima: find at home in Hau'oli City
• Lana: find and defeat her sisters in Konikoni City
• Kiawe: find at Paniola Town (Pokémon Sun only)
• Mallow: find at Konikoni City restaurant, daytime (Pokémon Moon only)
• Sophocles: Pokémon League Challenger, post-game
• Acerola: Pokémon League Elite Four
• Mina: find at Poni Gauntlet; defeat all trainers in the area
