There was a woman

who wandered too often.

She walked around town

musing over her late husband's coffin...

 

Widowed and lonely,

if a bit odd.

She had moved into town

from a country abroad.

 

She was the town's small talk,

the town's urban legend.

Mothers kept their children from her;

they called the woman wretched.

 

She walked up to houses

Asking for talk

The door got slammed on her,

they wanted no knocks.

 

She was the town outcast,

wicked and rotten.

They didn't need to be with her,

she would soon be forgotten...

 

One morning,

the town awoke to the sun.

They waited for knocks on the door,

but there were none.

 

After conversation and chatter,

they arrived at the graveyard.

And there lied the woman,

rotten and charred.

She was the outcast.
