Good points, good points indeed.
For me it's more of a 'better than nothing' sort of scenario. I'll buy the new games even if there's some things I don't like, the main issue with me was the console. Switch mini ain't a big deal or anything but at least it'll be a hundred dollars cheaper. Plus, there'll be games other than Pokemon that I'll want to get eventually.

I'd rather be bitter about a game console being the thing that manipulates a general public out of necessity to other merchandise than be bitter about things like insurance companies manipulating a general public out of a necessity to life.

So they came out with a Switch mini. People aren't entirely happy about this 'cause it doesn't add anything new to or improve the console -- it's simply a purely portable version of it. But for somebody like me who hates the Switch's clunky design and will never use the 'connect to tv' gimmick, this is pretty rad considering I'm 'gonna have to buy one to play new games. Just means I don't have to dunk that extra 100 dollars on a console I disliked to begin with.
