What inspired Ghetsis/Giovanni/Cyrus etc to start their own teams working for evil?

Well Ghetsis and Giovanni just wanted to take over the world like good ol' fashioned villain bosses do. Cyrus wanted to make himself a perfect world which he ended up doing in the anime but the portal closed and he trapped himself there. Team archie and maxie just wnated more sea and more land and not really anything else.
