Tips/Advice for a Playthrough of Pokemon Black/White?

A thread for posting (spoiler-free) advice for a playthrough of the given game which will help anyone playing it. The aim of this thread is to make playthroughs easier for someone who is playing it for the first time.

A couple of rules:

1. Don't give advice for Pokemon as a whole. Seperate thread for that can be found here.
2. Try to keep advice beginner friendly. Do not go into the more complex mechanics.
3. Don't post multiple answers. Edit your existing answers to add more.

3. don't give all moveset attack base same time use defence

Blue doesn't use any Pokemon in the Unova Pokedex. If you meant characters like Cheren, the game designers intentionally use bad Pokemon and moves to make the game easier for kids and casual players. For example, Cheren uses Unfezant and Liepard when they have bad stats and lots of better Pokemon he could have used, like Scrafty, Krookodile, and Archeops, and he uses moves like lick, leer, slash, and take down even in his last few battles when better moves are available for all of his Pokemon.

Also why would you use defensive moves when you can just attack and knock out your opponent?
