Some Pokémon have this icon and I'm not sure what it means. I have read that it's supposed to indicate that your trade partner doesn't have that Pokémon's dex entry, but I had a completed Pokedex and my friend saw the icon too when we were trading.

It also includes formes, like gender differences and regional.

According to Game8 (https://game8.co/games/Pokemon-Legends-Z-A/archives/557818)

It will show up if your trading partner (in this case, your friend) doesn't have the Pokémon registered in their Pokédex

This thumbs up will not show for Pokemon that are currently in your party.
• If you trade a Pokemon that your trading partner does not have then trade it back in the same session it will still show the thumbs up. Players need to exit the current session of the link trade and reenter a different one for this mark to disappear.

Do you know which specific differences are counted within a species? For instance, do Pokémon of the same species but different genders count as separate entries, and if so, does that apply only to species with gender differences or all species? What about shininess or other traits?
Shinies and Alphas are not affected by this. My Shiny Fletchinder and Alpha Meowstic have the same entries as their non-shiny or non-alpha counterparts

Gender Differences such as Meowstic, if you only have one gender it still counts as 'Registered' in the Pokédex but you won't get the separate Pokédex entry for the other gender. (So if you had a male Meowstic - you would unlock it's Pokédex entry but not female Meowstic's)
