After I hatched the first egg, I wasn't satisfied with the stats so I decided to try for another egg. But placing the same pair with the daycare I was not able to get any eggs. What is the "cooldown" period before the parents are able to produce another egg? If there is a such a period is it daily or a set amount of steps?

Okay, like Ninja said, every 256 steps there is a chance that the egg is going to be produced. If they have.....

Same species with different ID numbers:
Chance of getting an egg; 70% | Statement; "The two seem to get along very well!"
Same species with same ID numbers:
Chance of getting an egg; 50% | Statement; "The two seem to get along"
Different species with different ID numbers:
Chance of getting an egg; 50% | Statement; "The two seem to get along"
Different species with same ID numbers:
Chance of getting an egg; 20% | Statement; "The two don't seem to like each other"
Different Egg Groups:
Chance of getting an egg; 0% | Statement; "The two prefer to play with other Pokémon more than with each other."

No, the daycare man does not change what he says because of what I listed above. Pretty much all of your questions are answered by the info above.

Btw,I got this from Serebii

after 256 steps, the game decides if an egg is produced. if the daycare man says "they perfer to play with others" you cannot have an egg.

does every 256 steps change what the daycare man says? Will retrieving them and placing them back into daycare work? Or is there an intrinsic value tied to the the pokemon and will not change regardless of what i do?
