Introducing "The Luchador"
I've been hearing a lot about Hawlucha lately, and i've never really bothered to use one before. I figured I should try it out, because if it's in BL; it has to be good for something, right?
Oh, and it is. Trust me. Before I explain the team, here is a quick preview.
Luchador (Hawlucha) (M) @ Power Herb
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 8 HP / 252 Atk / 248 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Acrobatics
- High Jump Kick
- Sky Attack
First up is the pride and joy of the team, our Luchador Hawlucha. This is pretty much the set you see on every Hawlucha, and it is surely the best. The idea is to switch into something you can set up on or something you can force a switch out, and Swords Dance once or twice depending on the situation. If you can get Sky Attack off, you basically get a free Agility. Not only that, but Sky Attack will do massive damage to anything that doesn't resist it. High Jump Kick is the optimal fighting STAB, because it doesn't get Drain Punch or any of those shenanigans. Acrobatics is a more reliable Flying STAB on the other hand (after Sky Attack of course) because it has no drawbacks.
Notable Counters: Zapdos, Talonflame
Manectric Company (Manectric) @ Manectite
Ability: Lightningrod
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Overheat
- Hidden Power [Ice]
I've grown to like Mega Manectric a lot, it's such a great pokemon and it feels like it doesn't get enough usage. Hell, what do I know? Anyways, Manectric doesn't have much moves in it's Arsenal, however it has what it needs. Volt Switch is very handy, forming a VoltTurn core with Lando and being able to Switch into anything while at the same time doing a large chunk of damage. Thunderbolt is a more powerful STAB that over Volt Switch if I want to stay in or do more damage. Overheat is used over Flamethrower because it does more damage to anything that survives it, and it OHKOs a lot more. Even though it's recoil is harsh, Manectric should be switching out often anyways.
Mr. T (Landorus-Therian) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
Usually my lead if not Mega Manectric, Mr. T plays a very important role with this team. He gets rocks on the field to help Hawlucha sweep easier, and can take any Electric attacks aimed at Hawlucha due to it's ground typing. Most importantly, it can avoid Earthquake targetted at Manectric and Heatran and fire back with an Intimidate, because moth Earthquake users aren't mixed and won't be doing much at all to Landorus with this EV spread. Even without attack investment, this guy can still hit like a truck and he is a great addition to this team.
Slyv Co (Sylveon) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Calm Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Toxic
- Protect
- Wish
Since this team will be switching a lot and has no way of getting rid of hazards, everyone is going to be taking a lot of damage. I also realized I didn't have much to deal with strong dragon types. Who better to use than Sylveon? Sylveon provides much needed Wish support and can Toxic stall anything it needs to. Uninvested Hyper Voice still does loads of damage to my surprise, and I don't really want to sacrifice defense for attack, because we have plenty of offensive type pokemon, including.....
Fireballs Yum! (Heatran) @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 240 HP / 252 SpA / 16 Spe
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Flash Cannon
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Ice]
God, I love this Heatran set. If you can get Flash Fire up, Fire Blast is going to do truckloads of damage to anything, even something that resists it. Flash Cannon is secondary STAB that deals with pesky Fairies and Earth Power will subdue opposing Heatran as well as provide great coverage. Thinking about switching Landorus in? Think again. Hidden Power Ice checks Garchomp, Landorus, Gliscor, the whole lot. Heatran is a great tank, I enjoy using him.
Can't escape (Wobbuffet) @ Leftovers
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 28 HP / 232 Def / 248 SpD
Bold Nature
- Encore
- Counter
- Mirror Coat
- Safeguard
Yeah.... Wobbuffet.... this guy was kind of a filler, because I didn't really know what else to put. To my surprise, Wobbuffet is extremely helpful. It can pretty much guarantee a death or two to the opponent if played correctly. You can Encore a status user and use Safeguard, then safely switch into Hawlucha and start sweeping. I felt like I didn't really need Destiny Bond; Safeguard is a necessity because this team has no reliable way of getting rid of status.
I'm thinking of swapping this guy for Vaporeon or something, though i'm not sure.
