Most of the stuff I listen to is older stuff. There are only a couple of more recent bands that I like, (the only ones I can think of off of the top of my head are Bang Camaro and Greta Van Fleet) and that's mostly because they sound similar to the late '60s - '70s bands I listen to.
I can't get into what's popular now at all. Some of it is decent, but I really dislike quite a few things. For starters, I find nothing other than vocals to be memorable at all and find that, when I listen to what's going on in the background, it's generally pretty boring. Obviously, when something is being sung, that's what the main focus is currently on, but not all of the song has to be a vocal melody and background stuff can still sound great, even if it's not the melody.
I feel as though rap music, especially more recent stuff, is the most boring. Correct me if I'm wrong, but most of the stuff is about drugs and/or sex, and, other than vocals literally all there is going on in the background is a drone on one note for a bassline and a pretty boring beat on a hi-hat.
