And despite sceptile having a wide variety of physical attacks, it doesn't have a high enough attack stat or the bulk to get up a swords dance. Substitute is an option, but you lose HP.  Special sets are used to take advantage of mega sceptile's monstrous special attack,and thesheer power of those special attacks

When using a physical sceptile I use a substitute swords dance set, which max attack and speed EV's and usually its attacking moves are leaf blade and earthquake. Thats only for NU though.
