Yes, it does work. I've never used it for a shiny, but I've used it for natures and stats before, and I've seen other people use it for shinies on the ShinyPokemon subreddit.

Nothing like playing through Crystal and realizing there is barely any efficient grinding methods before the Elite 4.

There is a water area before Victory road that has Tentacool and Cruel. Tentacool give 15 EXP per level, while Tentacruel Gives about 29/30 EXP per level. It is still a snail crawl rate, but gets EXP faster because of less walking, text, KOing, and other annoyances.

The Elite Four suicide method has a perk in money, however :P

Its so hard to grind in Crystal, though :(

0 means I have a parent to breed the Pokémon with, but no spares, 1+ means I have some spares that I can trade immediately (although I can probably won’t be able to trade today, at least not until it’s pretty late). I’m interested in pretty much everything you listed.

Gen 2 was a simpler time. Back then, all you needed was a Haunter/Gengar with Swagger, Night Shade, and Psychic/Dark Pulse.

You could take out all threats by confusing them and spamming a damaging move. RNG not working for you? Keep retying, it'll work out eventually. :P
