I just figured out the meaning of it! Ok so, there are two other songs on the album, august and cardigan, and they connect to betty! It’s about a love triangle (which Taylor calls “The Teenage Love Triangle) and they all describe James cheating on Betty with another girl. Each of them is from a different perspective. Betty is the aftermath of all of it, cardigan is during the cheating I believe, and I haven’t heard August yet.

Also who even writes a song called “betty” and then says frick for the first time in their whole music career XD

Yup! She screwed some of the songs up by trying to be cool and cursing and stuff, imo

And then the other songs on the album are pretty mediocre, expect the 1, which is pretty solid.

It sounds so light and soft, but there’s a bit of an edge to it, it just sounds so nice.
