How do you obtain Pokemon through Global Link from events?

There will be an announcement for a password/event. If you have a Pokemon Trainer Club account, log in, go to Promotions, and enter your password.

Erm....what? I'm not positive I know what to do...I have a Trainer Club account, the Sinnoh Starters are a Global Link Event, I go to the promotions, and which password are you talking about? Am I supposed to receive it?
