If I catch a Pidgey, does my Froakie gain a Speed EV?
Unless the EV mechanics have changed, a Pokemon will gain EVs when it gains experience, so since it now gains EXP, it will gain an EV too.
Catching a wild Pokémon will now give EVs for that Pokémon as if it were defeated.
