PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I just versed a player online who annihilated my team with a washing machine rotom and he obviously used his team as a PvP IV team or whatever to solely rack up wins with overpowered Pokemon. I don't understand why my team was virtually useless against it when I was able to destroy his other Pokemon and I don't want to complain and say that it was hacked but I honestly couldn't budge it. Does anyone know how to destroy these stupid abominations effectively?

Rotom-Wash is pretty bulky, but there is one thing that can take him down. Grass Type moves.
Use a bulky Pokemon of your own, such as Venusaur(Mega or non-mega both work ok).
Bulky Grass types like Venusaur and Trevenant can defeat Rotom-Wash pretty easily. Venusaur has Sleep Powder, while Trevenant has Natural Cure/Harvest Sitrus Berry to shut down Rotom.
the only grass type i have ready for PvP is my Chesnaught which isn't all that good anyhow but thanks a lot guys
Breloom is viable as well to deal with a bulky Rotom-W; it'll outspeed it with 252 Speed EVs & can set up Spore or go straight to Bullet Seed/ Seed Bomb.

Countering Rotom Wash

Taunt:

You can use taunt on Rotom-W so it is unable to use moves such as Pain Split, Trick and Will-O-Wisp.

Mold Breaker, Turboblaze, Teravolt:

Pokémon with these abilities can hit Rotom-W with Ground type moves as they ignore the effects of Levitate.

Grass types:

Pokémon such as Venusaur, Trevenant, Celebi and Breloom are effective counters to Rotom-W. Venusuar in particular resists both of Rotom's STAB moves (Thunderbolt and Hydro Pump) and can set up Leech Seed to restore it's HP. It also has access to Sleep Powder to put it to sleep and can recover more of it's HP using Giga Drain. Trevenant can out stall Rotom-W thanks to it's Ability Harvest and a Sitrus Berry and can inflict Rotom-W with a burn thanks to Will-O-Wisp. It also can hit Rotom-W with high BP Grass moves such as Wood Hammer etc. Celebi also resists both of Rotom's STAB moves and it doesn't matter if it gets burnt because it has Natural Cure, which will cure it's status problem when switching out. It depends which set your running but you can either set up Calm Minds or go straight for Giga Drain/Leaf Storm etc. Breloom has access to Spore which will send Rotom to sleep if it hits, it also has Bullet Seed which will do major damage to Rotom if it is boosted by Technician. Breloom also has access to priority moves such as Mach Punch and can also set up Swords Dance. Breloom's other Ability is Poison Heal which will prevent it from getting burnt and allow it to stall out Rotom with Leech Seed and Portect.

Trick/Knock Off:

You could use Trick on Rotom-W to give it a Choice Band or another item which would not benefit Rotom whatsoever, or you could use Knock Off to get rid of Rotom's held item.

Stall Out:

You could stall it out by using a Pokémon such as Sableye. Thanks to Prankster Sableye will always go first when it is using a status move, since Rotom-W doesn't learn any priority move other than Protect. With an arsenal of moves such as Will-O-Wisp, Recover, Knock Off, Fake Out, Night Shade, Substitute and Toxic it could easily counter Rotom-W.

Hope I helped :)

mainly, just use special grass types or physical faster than him.

here are some good ones that I think could easily take on rotom-W

Venusaur-Mega @ Venusaurite
enter image description here
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 202 Def / 252 HP / 54 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Leech Seed
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Roar

i mean, mega venu isn't the ultimate rotom counter, but it works perfectly fine. sleep powder to make the chesto berry variant useless and just stall it out with leech-seed or use giga drain.
its pretty much the same for the leftovers variant.

54+ SpA Mega Venusaur Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Rotom-W: 152-180 (50 - 59.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

not OHKO with giga drain, but venue doesn't fear will's. nor any of rotor's moves, so it should be a good counter
___

Breloom @ Life Orb
enter image description here
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Mach Punch
- Seed Bomb
- Spore
- Swords Dance

breloom is a good answer to rotom outspeeding it and can OHKO with bullet seed or use spore and set up. it may ending up fearing the scarf variant, but these aren't exactly too common and almost no scarf rotom's carries will-o-wisp, so breloom is a very good counter to him

252 Atk Life Orb Technician Breloom Bullet Seed (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Rotom-W: 453-537 (149 - 176.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

if bullet seed hits two times, the chance of OHKO'ing decreases to 93.8% which is still a pretty high chance
__

Excadrill @ Choice Scarf
enter image description here
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Rapid Spin
- Rock Slide
- Iron Head

excadrill is a very useful counter to rotom outspending both the scarfed and unscarfed variants.
just use earthquake combinated with its good ability mold breaker, and it goes like this:

252 Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Rotom-W: 318-374 (104.6 - 123%) -- guaranteed OHKO

the physically defensive can be scary thoug….

252 Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Rotom-W: 254-302 (83.5 - 99.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

but I believe adamant nature fixes that

hope I helped:D
