Absolutely no, if you have both X and Y. You can trade version exclusive Pokemon, Xerneas and Yveltal for Pokedex if your friend also has 3DS, or you can simply use PokeBank now. So, it is acctually really good, not bad in any way.
You can even experiment stuff in Wi-Fi battles or something, about that friend 3DS thing.
