Can you evolve Pikachu in Pokemon Yellow?

Question

I know Raichu is unavailable in Pokemon Yellow so how do you evolve a Pikachu? I have never played any Gen 1 games or their remakes.

You cannot evolve Pikachu in Pokemon Yellow. Your only option is to trade it to either the Red or Blue version and evolve it there with the thunderstone then trade it back.
