How was Mew obtained in Fire Red in the time of the event?

Back in the days of Fire Red, I think there was an event for getting Mew, which I didn't care to attend. Now that I watched Origins, I started to play Fire Red again and that also got me thinking about Mew.
How was it exactly obtained in Fire Red in the time of the event?

You Have to Trade
By Using The Special Item (Old Sea Map) in Pokemon Emerald. You Catch Mew in Faraway island and it's yours. Then,you can Trade it over to Fire Red.
This Event has Long Passed.You'd have to Catch it first then transfer it on to Gen 4, or Trade it to Fire Red/Leaf Green

If I recall right the only way to obtain mew in Fire Red is to get the Emerald Old sea map event then trade it over.
