Do the legendary bird Pokemon stay if you have the ability Arena Trap?

I am wondering if it would be worth training a Flygon with Arena Trap to fight Zapdos with so it cant fly away in Y. Will this work?

No, because they are Flying Types. Arena Trap only affects grounded Pokémon.
