Is something wrong? No Pokemon are appearing?

I have walked the first forest in Pokemon red twice now and not a single Pokemon has appeared.

When I went through Viridian Forest a while ago in Red, I only encountered a couple of Pokemon
I'm pretty sure you just got lucky (or unlucky if you were searching for pokemon)
