I just caught a Braviary in White 2 with its hidden ability, and it got me thinking about Superpower. It got me to wonder if it only happens if the enemy uses a stat-lowering move, or if it can be from recoil.

How did you ''catch'' a Braviary with it's hidden ability and not breed?
In White 2 on Rt. 5, every Monday there will be a Defiant Braviary as a field encounter

When a stat of a Pokémon with this Ability is lowered by an opponent, its Attack is increased by two stages. Defiant will not activate if the Pokémon with this Ability lowers its own stats (such as with Close Combat) or if its stats are lowered by an ally.

I hope this was what you're looking for.

Ah, I must have forgotten that one part, thanks for letting me know! I'm not entirely around the competitive scene in Pokémon (still getting there), so this'll help a bit when I'm using a Poké with Defiant.

So no, self-inflicted stat drops to not activate Defiant.
