Gravity prevents Pokémon from reaping Ground-type immunity through flying or levitating and makes those Pokémon vulnerable to Spikes, Toxic Spikes and Arena Trap.
Gravity also cancels and prevents moves that cause the user to become airborne, like Bounce, Fly, Splash, Jump Kick, Hi Jump Kick, and Magnet Rise. If a Pokémon is using Fly, Bounce, or is under the effect of Magnet Rise when Gravity comes into effect, the moves are canceled immediately.
Gravity also decreases the Evasion of all Pokémon in battle by two stages.
In Generation V, Gravity cancels the effect of Telekinesis and prevents it from being used. Gravity also negates the effects of Air Balloon.
Gravity can also activate a glitch in double and triple battles that can cause a Pokémon to be stuck in the semi-invulnerable state of Sky Drop until it faints. It is activated when Gravity is used while two Pokémon are in the semi-invulnerable state of Sky Drop. Gravity will bring the user of Sky Drop down, while the target will be stuck in the semi-invulnerable state, unable to move, until it is knocked out.
