Basically, I just want to know if Wigglytuff being given the Fairy type in LGPE is a gamechanger, a good buff, or something detrimental.

BTW, the tag for Wigglytuff didn’t show up for some odd reason.

Edit: To make things even clearer, I want to know whether the LGPE Wigglytuff is better than Gen 1 Wigglytuff based off of typing, stab, e.t.c.

yup, it is quite the gamechanger actally, Fairy is one of the best types in the game.
Are you speaking about competitive play or in-game playthroughs?
Both ingame and competitive.
What games are you talking about? The learnsets for LGPE are different than SWSH and BDSP learnsets. Are you talking about a certain set of games, or are you talking about all the games past USUM?
I’m talking about LGPE
personally, I’d say that in terms of STAB and typing, Wigglytuff got a great buff. Normal-Fairy cancels out the fighting weakness, and only adds two new ones (poison & steel), as well as a new immunity (dragon). Overall, the new fairy typing is one of the better buffs it could have received.
Oh, cool! Thanks a ton.
I gotta get home from school, then I’ll put this into a full answer. Glad I helped!

Alright, let’s start with Wigglytuff’s stats, movepool, and typing in RBY.

RBY:
Typing: Normal (Weak to Fighting, Immune to Ghost, resisted by Rock because Steel doesn’t exist yet)

Movepool: Level-up movepool is terrible (only counting Wigglytuff not Jigglypuff, which does make some use out of body slam and double-edge) , but most TMs are available for its use, which are actually quite diverse? (Psychic moves such as Psychic and Psywave help against its fighting weakness).

Stats:

  • 140 HP (monstrous)
  • 70 Atk (subpar)
  • 45 Def (fragile as my ego)
  • 50 Special (In RBY, this is SpA and SpD as one stat, but not 25 in each stat)
  • 45 Spe (Slow as a brick)

Basically, a HP tank but with these subpar defenses it won’t be doing you any favors.

LGPE:
Typing: Normal-Fairy (Immune to Ghost & Dragon, weak to steel and poison (fairy has a fighting resistance, cancels out), STAB is resisted by rock, steel, poison and fire, resists bug and dark.

Movepool: Again, terrible outside Jigglypuff and TMs (beautifully diverse, like a rainbow!). Dazzling Gleam and Hyper Beam (please don’t hate me) round out some nice STABs, and coverage on all types through its TM usage.

Stats:

  • 140 HP (monstrous)
  • 70 Atk (subpar)
  • 45 Def (greater than power-tricked shuckle at least)
  • 85 SpA (okay, but not pretty good as the other attacking option is base 70)
  • 50 SpD (unexpectedly bad)
  • 45 Spe (slow as a brick that needs to keep cementing itself)

Okay, kind of a special attacker now with extreme HP and terrible defenses? What kind of thing is this (admittedly better than RBY)?

Summary: From RBY this thing was destined to be an HP wall and nothing more. No defenses, subpar attacks, bad typing, but a great movepool? Wasted potential. Gen 6 gave this, shudders thing a nice typing buff, and paired with Fairy STAB made it somewhat usable in-game (not me though, only the finest Xerneas :)). LGPE didn’t really do much on its own, so my answer is that Wigglytuff had a great buff after Gen 6 (not really LGPE but still applies), but with its subpar overall stats it stays a mediocre-bad Pokemon. Glad I helped, took me quite a while to type on a phone.
