PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

Hello, I'm wondering, I recently read that this year's Pokemon VGC tournaments had stricter checks on players' teams. I'm wondering how do they check, as in do they just hook something up to your Nintendo Switch and check? Or do they transfer your team to some device and check there, or do they just eyeball it? How does it work? Sorry for the newb question, just curious.

All they did was check if Pokémon could pass through Pokémon Home. Some players were caught using genned Pokémon, and others weren't, but because they function identically to normal Pokémon some players may have gotten away with it. Genned Pokémon don't appear to have Pokémon Home data until they pass through Home, so it could be that those who didn't pass them through Home were the ones that got caught, but that those who did made their Pokémon seem more legit, as that Pokémon now has Home data.
