How close do you need to be to the Moss/Ice rock to evolve Eevee?

Is it on the same patch of grass? Do you need to just be in the same location? In Gens 4-6, I would like to know exactly how many tiles you need to be away from each rock. Gen 7 would be hard to figure out since it doesn't really have tile-based movement, but bonus points if you figure that out.

As far as I could tell, you only need to be in the same route as the Rock, just like the magnetic field evos.

I tested this with Eevee in pokémon platinum, and giving it a rare candy immediatly triggered the evolutions in both entrances of Eterna Forest and Route 217 for Leafeon and Glaceon, respectively.
