A gimmick team is a team designed to trick or surprise an opponent. It often uses overlooked movesets (such as a special set for a Metagross) or a cheap tactic to try gain the upper hand. Pokemon that aren't fully evolved also may feature in them as part of a cheap tactic (the unevolved pokemon is chosen not for the evolite bonus but to add insult to injury if the team wins). Gimmick teams tend to be creative and unexpected, but some trainers will try to hard for the element of surprise and make a gimmick team that is not practical enough to actually win battles without a lot of luck.
