What happens when I lose to N or Ghetsis?

You will be taken back to the last Pokemon centre you used. You can return to N's castle by going back to the pokecenter at the elite 4 and talk to a person there. Then you can re-battle N/Ghetsis.

As lotte said but there is actually a poke centre in Ns castle but once you defeat N who is rather easy you don't have to battle him again
If you want to go to your pc box before you battle there is also one in the castle and if you run out of Medicane you can teleport back to pokemon liege
